Some pictures of Dublin ... taken yesterday evening.  A great small city to spend a day in, but don't look to occupying a whole week there.  But Ireland is worth seeing.   Did you know there are 80 million people who can hold an Irish passport, 4 million of whom live in Ireland?  ;D

Oooh! I loved Dublin!!

We went for our first anniversary. Funnily enough, it was the weekend for a big Ireland v Scotland Rugby match so we met more Scottish people than Irish everywhere we went!  ;)

We hope to go back again soon.....mmmmmmmguinesssssssssssssss  [smiley=drunk.gif] [smiley=heart.gif]

Thanks for the pics...much better than mine!

Have been to Dublin and honestly wasn't that impressed :-\  (Don't tell Sean, it's sort of his second home)  It didn't feel any different to any other big city.  It actually felt slightly Canadian to me, though I'm not sure why???  Anyway.. I absolutely love Ireland on the whole (got to spend more time in and around Waterford) but just wasn't overly impressed with Dublin.

Ya know, there's more to Ireland than just the Republic!  ;)

There are some fantastic sites to see here in Northern lreland too! We have the Giants Causeway, some absolutely gorgeous cathedrals, Ulster American Folk Park, Devenish Island in Co Fermanagh, Carrickfergus Castle, Rowallane Gardens Saintfield, Beaghmore Stone Circle, The Franciscan Friary Ruins here in Armagh, the Armagh Planetarium, Stormont in Belfast, the list goes on! If you need any more information please feel free to ask! l have contacts!!   ;)

P.S. Can you tell l used to work for the Tourist Information Centre?  ;D

Looks like you still do  ;D ;D

I've heard great things about "The North" but never made it there; most of my trips are for work ... yesterday I finished at 4pm in an office on the Dublin outskirts and I was on th 9 p.m. freight boat from Dublin Port to Mostyn.  Quick walk up the Liffey [river], quick visit to an Internet Cafe, and that was my lot!

Tenrith - I somewhat agree - "don't spend too long in Dublin itself ... get out and see ....".   You mention Waterford.  I'll choose Glendalough and the Wicklow Hills .... where else would you choose??  There are plenty of organised tourist trips out - not sure how many run in winter.  Peedal - would you take a car on the ferry?  An experience in itself if you've not done it before and it leaves you mobile in winter.

Mind - you have to walk round Templebar at night a couple of times, and you have to have a Guinness in Dublin!

I wouldn't mind getting to N. Ireland at some point, but no such plans yet. :)  Sean's dad is born and raised in Dublin, and his mom in Co Tyrone.

Like I say though, I've only spent a short time there and mainly in Waterford/Tramore, which was lovely :)  Tramore is definitely a summer holiday spot, but love the beach and boardwalk carnival atmosphere.  I'd like to live there eventually.

We went to Belfast and the North Antrim coast last year for a long weekend.  It was FAB!!  The Giants Causeway is pure amazing.  And we went when there was a HUGE motorcycle rally thing on... i cant think what it's called now... but it was great to see all the cool motorbikes everywhere.. and lots of guys walking about in leathers!  ;)

Aaah Ireland, a magical place for sure!  Dublin is a must see, but just that,,see it and then start to venture out.  Don't forget Avoca (Ballykissangel), first time we went there, they were filming and I had no idea what it was all about, so one of the crew members explained the series and pointed out who was who!  While all of Ireland is beautiful, each part has its own special beauty, my favourite area would have to be the north,,,people were friendly and helpful (especially Trish!!  ;D).  I'll do some "plugging" now....if you have a chance to go to the Ulster American Folk Park go,,,,they have a great Bluegrass/Folk music festival in early September and it is fantastic!
