Tesco has Newman's Ranch and we have also had one from Lidl, that one was OK but Newman's was way better.

The UK's the Third World mate, but the cider is delicious.

Can you back this statement up with any evidence?!!   or is it, as I suspect a 'tongue in cheek' comment?!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!

I'd say no: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=20051.msg242201#msg242201

I've spent all afternoon (and part of the evening! This is quite a thread!) reading this. I love that it started in 2004 and some of the OPs are already back in the states or have made the moves they anticipated a year in advance. :)

I still have a year to wait (stupid school teaching job! ;) ) but after reading the thread about stuff to really think about before going and getting myself a little freaked out, it's comforting to read this one. These are some of the things that I fell in love with in my brief visits there, too. It's funny how much more sensible and *normal* the lifestyle in the UK seems compared to my lifestyle here. I've always identified much more with things there, anyway.

My favourite things I'm looking forward to are:

Public transport and no need for a car (or expensive petrol/insurance/maintenance...)
the weather
Radio 1 live whenever I want (not just in my car with my Sirius radio 5 hours delayed!)
Being outside more
real public parks- not baseball fields for kids
pubs and good beer
South bank
museums
Tesco!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hollyoaks (I'm such an addict!)
Bank holidays (and using the word holiday! Makes every day off sound so festive! ;) )
fun cheeses you can't get here
tea, tea and tea!
Graham Norton
Being able to visit my friends in Ireland, Spain and France on weekends!!

I'll allow that as long as you also go for ORANGE mobile service... ;) :P

I haven't even heard of Waitrose till I started reading this board. None of my friends has ever mentioned it before. I'll definitely check it out! Not sure why I like Tesco so much. It's odd- I have a favourite supermarket in just about every country I've been to. I love grocery shopping in other countries (no idea why! It's just fun!) I have to admit I will miss SuperTargets, though. So convenient.. and cheap.

I think once you start exploring other shops, Tesco may drop from your list.  ;)

Yeah, my friend Matt in Nottingham doesn't get my fascination either. I do like how it's mentioned in the LDN song from Lily Allen! :D Is it strange that I am getting excited about going to Waitrose for the first time, now???

I like M&S too, but it's generally too expensive (for me). Whole Foods over in Kensington is also AMAZING (blows away any WF here in the states!) I got one of their reusable shopping bags that says London on it and use it every time I go shopping!!! *sigh*

Yes, I'm a dork! (But I have had some enquiries about if I really got the bag in London!)

Waitrose is definitely the way to go.

Every time my mum sends me the newest copy of Waitrose Food Illustrated, my homesickness gets to raging.

If you're ever stuck for something to cook, just search their website for recipes from WFI back-issues.

Ooh. Thanks for the link! Very cool. :) I'll start practicing my Brit cooking skillz.

Waitrose is great...

Unless you have an average income or children...then it is way too expensive for the weekly shop.  But oh, so good when you can manage to splash out!
