Wedding bands
« on: May 04, 2007, 05:44:41 PM »
So, my ring has been made and it is BEAUTIFUL, according to my mother who has it in her possession, at the moment.  However, I still need bands for each of us.  I want something plain and relatively thin (to wear when I am working with my hands and don't want to damage the other ring).  DF wants plain as well.  Both white gold.

So, any suggestions on where to purchase these bands?  Everywhere I have looked, they have been REALLY expensive.  I refuse to pay $300 for a plain white gold band!

I've heard good things about www.e-weddingbands.com, maybe you could try them?  Their prices seem quite reasonable for white gold :)

I second e-weddingbands - my 2mm plain platinum band only cost $235!  It looks like the same thing in 14K white gold is only $56 ($64 for sizes 8+)....

I looked all over and finally wandered into a local jewelry shop.  They made my white gold band (14k) with brushed finish in two days and for 90.00.  I was beyond happy.  I think it took so little time because they had just gotten an order of gold in.

But seriously, check out local jewelry places.  We spent a whole day looking for a band for me in every place, but no one had what I wanted.

They don't have a website, but I am sure you can find something similar in your area.

Thanks Andrea and Meg!  I will look there and see what I find.  ;D

Forgot to say that Chris got the exact same thing, except 4mm rather than 2mm, and we match very well. :)  Here's a photo of my rings together, fwiw...

They normally sit flush against each other, but we were purposely trying to show the presence of two rings when we took the photo.  ;D

I don't have any advice but I wanted to say good luck with your search! My sister's engagement ring was $10,000 and the band was $3,000!! ::) I couldn't believe it when she told me! How outrageous! That would pay for a brand new version of my current car! I think her husbands wedding band (brushed platinum) was all of $300 or so from a local place.

What's funny is how she gets all nervous about wearing it in certain places. Why the heck would you ask for a ring that expensive if you're going to fear it being stolen all the time? She's very paranoid about it! She can't hardly turn it around on her finger either because the whole thing is covered in diamonds (those little ones.. baguettes?). I wouldn't care if my ring had a fake stone in it. As long as it looks nice, who cares if it isn't real? It's more symbolic and sentimental to me I guess.

My God that is exactly what my wedding band and engagement rings look like.  We got all our rings from a local jeweler who sat down with us for 3 hours and went over every aspect of buying a wedding set, it was fun and really helpful and we always highly recommend the jeweler ever since.  I paid $153 for Roys wedding band and we got mine free because we bought my engagement ring and my husbands wedding band so my band was free.

Zeusy that's great! Sometimes it's nice to go with local people because they'll throw in bonuses like that while bigger places won't even consider it.

Don't I know, the jeweler we bought from actually told us not to buy the rings that day, but to go home and sleep on it, becuase he did not want to be responsible for us not liking our rings, so we left and over the next 3 days we went to 11 jewelers and each one I described the exact ring we saw in the first jeweler (the one we spent 3 hours in) and finally my then boyfriend now husband said "Can we please just go get the rings you want, because I don't want to go into another jeweler when we know exactly where the rings are that we want" so that was that.

:o Wow! That really shows that the guy was an honest business man! That's awesome!

Question: If you do want to order bands on a website, what's the best way to determine your ring size? I'm needing wedding bands as well, and I remember my size from my engagement ring, I have no idea about my fiance. I know I could just go to a jewelry store, but I'd feel a bit guilty if I didn't have the intention to buy anything.
