If I've had a lot of people over, I do a pot of chili in winter - you can make veg chili as well and in summer I do hamburgers and hot dogs

For parties I've also had trays of sandwich meat (antipasti) and cheese with lots of rustic bread and let people make their own sandwiches.  That way, it cuts down on the work before hand and if there are leftovers, you can actually use them.    Then veg and dips.  Hummus and pita is a good one too.  Don't make fruit salad, just cut up the fruit.  You can also get the frozen appetizers at sainsbury's.  Oh and don't forget the sausage rolls and the cheese and onion rolls - It isn't a party without the rolls!!

We need a bbq!  I would have loved to do burgers and hotdogs.  I saw a cute portable Green Webber one at John Lewis.

I like the make your own sandwich idea.

The rolls and the cheese and pineapple on a toothpick :P

Oy, we have about 60 people coming now and it's supposed to rain.  I'm freaking out.

(I would invite everyone here, but where would I put everyone :-[)

speaking of grills, a make-your-own-smores table is fun, too.
it's not where you're born, it's where you belong

YUM!  But do they do those here?  Would people think they were odd?

They did a Smores for 2 at a cafe called DTUT right near my apartment in NYC.  Oh it was so good.

They might think they're odd ... but only until they taste them!  :)

I have made a few converts but you have to use digestives and cadbury so it's not quite the same.  Still sickly sweet though!!!

This sounds like a recipe I need! Please?
Here it is:

Quote
Get a round 2 lb pumpernickel bread.
16 ounces of low fat sour cream
16 ounces of low fat cream cheese
4 ounces of red caviar (the cheepest there is)
5 stalks of scallions, only the green part, cut into
small pieces

Mix sour cream and cream cheese together till smooth.
Cut out the bread Cut up the top and the inside into
bite size pieces.
Pour 3 ounces of caviar and 3/4 of the scallions into
cream cheese and sour cream mix and fold in carefully.
Put mixture into hollowed out bread. Put left over
caviar and scallions on top for decoration.

Enjoy.  Even better for breakfast the next day.  Love
M

We always used a small jar of the small red caviar.

Humus
White bean dip
Guacamole
Salsa
Tabouleh

Add pita bread and crisps and you're in business.

Well, it's for a party!  So if you've got a mix of things he can eat what he likes.
