New Exercise Routine
« on: June 19, 2007, 02:57:57 PM »
A friend of mine and myself decided yesterday that we were fed up with our old boring gym routine.  So, last night we met at the high school track and walked/ran/sprinted 3 miles!  Interval training, I think it is called.  I feel great!  And it was so nice to exercise outdoors!  ;D

Anyone else do something out of their norm recently?

I been doing interval training, it is supposed to build better endurance.  Also, I have been riding my bike and I think that helps with my running.

Walking my dog almost everyday for an hour / running my dog while riding my bike 3x/week for 1/2 an hour / 7k walk home from work twice a week.

My dog has been the best source of exercise for me yet!

Dogs are good for that!

Mostly I'm just walking, and though I'm trying to do 3-5 miles every other day, the weather has a lot to do with my actual frequency of exercise...stupid rain!

This month I am doing a rotation with a focus on high-rep low-weight weight training. I do a 60 minute full body lifting session every other day, with cardio one day in between, yoga one day in between, and a rest day. It has really made a difference in my upper body tone.

Roy and I have started walking as well, we slept so good when we were in Yorkshire  we were pretty convinced it was due to all the walking we had done, so we have tried to continue to walk.

I try to walk either to or from work (~1.5 miles) and take the bus the other direction, and it's pretty rare that it's raining both times. Occasionally I walk both ways. And I get quite a bit of extra walking in just doing the shopping.

Selling my car and moving to the UK has been the best exercise plan yet!  ;)

OMG Dar, it's averaging over 100 degrees (F of course) here everyday and I STILL see people running/jogging in the middle of the day. People usually assume 2 things:

1) They're crazy, or
2) They're locals (and thus, crazy)

My mom and I just moved and I'm excited because now I'm right next to my gym. Once my chem class is over I'm going to start going more regularly. I wish the temps here were about 20 degrees lower, because then I'd be out climbing Camelback Mountain! Woo!

I try, inbetween work and the little one, to get up early and do a 30 minute kickboxing (very fast paced and upbeat) routine every other day and on the days inbetween do some strengh training with a resistance band.  It really helps to tone and get your fix of cardio.  We also try to get outside as much as possible.  Walking whenever possible.  Interval training is suppose to be really good for you, I need to try it sometime!  It burns more calories and should increase stamina.  I've read the articles, just haven't put it into play.

You climb?  Hmmm, perhaps when we are both in England we will have to have climbing trips in the Peak District!  ;)

I'm not an experienced climber, but I LOVE hiking and climbing, and I'm pretty brave. I've done a few climbs that were probably out of my league a bit, but I had an experienced climber with me and I learn fast, so I did okay. And yes, I would love to do some trips to the Peak District! I'm so looking forward to being able to go out and romp in the English countryside!  ;D
