Getting a single large item shipped to the UK
« on: June 26, 2007, 03:44:52 PM »
I'm sure I posted this last year but the suggestion I received didn't pan out at all. I have a gorgeous round marble table on a pedistal which belonged to my grandmother in my mothers garage. I'm desperate to get it here but have no idea how to go about it. It's a shame I can't trust my mom enough to sort this out for me. So what I'm looking for is a company that will go to her house, pack it up and ship it to me. The marble is about 1 metre in diameter and about 2.5cm thick. It's pretty heavy. Any ideas?

It's going to cost you a fortune!  I need to ship a smallish harp and found Craters and Freighters.   http://www.cratersandfreighters.com/cf/home.do  I don't think they'll come out to your mom's and pack it up.  Is there a neighbor who could pack it up and then your mom could take it to them or perhaps UPS--not sure what that would cost in comparison to Craters and Freighters but my harp which is about half the size of a concert harp and weighs about 40 pounds when packed up and stuffed with other things in it's case (a few music books, etc) with insurance will cost $1300.00  :P

I'll probably go with a different company called U-Pak We Ship, but I don't have all the details on them yet, don't know if they'll insure the harp either.  But the estimate they gave me was about $600.00.  http://www.upakweship.com/quotepage.htm

This company looks good and after an initial estimate will cost even less than U-Pak We Ship.  They also come out to your house and pick the item up.

Thanks Andee! I just requested a quote from upakweship but countour-usa is probably better and the price doesn't seem that bad.  ;)
