Good sites for downloading music?
« on: July 03, 2007, 07:10:07 PM »
I've been using MSN Music UK to download music and I'm really frustrated with their limited song availability.  I've also tried Itunes but can't get the songs to play through Windows Media Player or on my MP3 player. Any recommendations as to good sites to download songs from?

The annoying thing about itunes is that the songs will only play on Apple ipods and itunes music players :(.

I download my music from the Woolworths and Tesco websites - the songs are usually 59p-79p (depending on offers) and newly released albums are £5.99 upwards, although they used to come with copyrights and they wouldn't play on my mp3 player unless I copied them onto CD and then back onto the computer without the copyright.

However, I think they've now changed some, if not all, of the music so that it is no longer restricted by copyrights and privacy encoding.

Hope this helps :).

There is a way around that. I haven't used iTunes for a year or so, so I'm not exactly sure if I remember this correctly: I think if you download a song, burn it to a CD, then back onto your computer, it should work OK with Windows Media Player on your PC. I think. Again, I'm not really sure if that's how I did it, but I know I did it somehow. Maybe someone else here will be clearer.

That's how I've managed to get rid of the copyrights on the mp3s I've downloaded from other sites, but I've never actually used itunes, so I couldn't say for sure whether it would work for them too.
