We are screwed arent we?
« on: July 18, 2007, 04:34:57 PM »
Oh man......Ive been trying so hard to get everything right with our 3 dogs PETS scheme- but its now dawned on me a week before we can actually fly them that we are screwed.
Our dogs were all different as one started his procedure in florida, for one everything was done here in Vegas and I think his paperwork will be fine, but the other...........well we only adopted her from a rescue about a year ago, and she had had her microchip and rabies vac prior to her adoption in california. Her rabies vac cert doesnt have her chip number on it, but I know she had the chip prior to that as she was only vaccinated the day before we adopted her. I mentioned this to the vet here in vegas and he said he didnt want to give her another rabies shot as she had just had a 3 year one and he was worried of health effects. He assured me that her certificate would be fine (!).
So that is problem number one we have- no ID on rabies certificate. But it totally bypassed my attention until now that we dont even have her certificate of her microchip implantation!!!!! I have no idea when or where it was done  :\\\'( I tried contacting homeagain to see if they have it on record- nope. I contacted the rescue where we got her- nope. We are screwed arent we.
On top of all that, a total of 4 different vets have done various procedures, some oh which we had nothing to do with. I had no idea these vets had to be usda accredited, and have no idea if they all are!!!!! This is just awful.

i just had my vet retype all the rabies cert with the chip number on them. I had my dogs PETs stuff done 4 years ago and have been keeping up with boosters since then. I had quite a few to retype as the numbers had only been handwritten on them.

You can either try with the handwritten number (and a letter from the vet saying that the rabies cert can't be printed out with the number on them) or have your vet retype it?

We are flying out August 5th. I'm so scared my 2 dogs will end up in quarantine for something i've missed. We are such an odd situation since we did the procedure so long ago.

For our dogs regarding implantation we just have the invoice where we paid for it then on the rabies vax done the next day it has the microchip number on it.

Maybe you can call DEFRA to get some answers?

Thanks for your advice. I made a total nuisance of myself and finally got everything sorted! I have a new rabies certificate sent to us from california that has her ID number on it- and despite mega attempts to locate her original chip implantation details to no avail, DEFRA came through for us and said if the chip insertation date is unknown and can not be traced, and it is certain it was before her vaccination we can just have the vet write 'prior to [date of vaccination] on the 3rd country certificate'. PHEWEEEE!

Such a weight off my mind........
