What's your most recent book purchase?
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:54:42 PM »
I just added my most recent purchases to the "What's the last thing you bought online" thread, but thought a new thread would be fun. In light of the huge number of us who said we're obsessed with books and reading, here's a chance to let the rest of us know!

I just bought three Persephone books (my real obsession):

Bricks and Mortar by Helen Ashton
Minnie's Room: The Peacetime Diaries of Mollie Panter-Downes by Mollie Panter-Downes
The Home-Maker by Dorothy Canfield Fisher

Harry Potter 7 :).

I don't have much time for reading at the moment, so I have a backlog of new books bought in the last few months that I haven't started yet. Dealthy Hallows is the only one of them I've read so far.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, of course!  And because I have no patience, I wound up with both the UK and US editions. :P

I don't buy books as much as I used to, sadly.  Most of mine are from the library these days.  Does that count?  If so, my most recent book is Michael Tolliver Lives by Armistead Maupin.

...I have a backlog of new books bought in the last few months...

I fear my backlog may go back years! :-[  Anyway, I've been making a concerted effort not to buy anymore - just to read through what we have, but I did buy some today:

Pies and Prejudice: In Search of the North - Stuart Maconie
Donne: The Reformed Soul - John Stubbs
Thomas Hardy: The Time-torn Man - Claire Tomalin

And we are due to get the new Harry Potter tomorrow morning - Steve ordered it last week from our local independent bookshop.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

- from Anthem, by Leonard Cohen (b 1934)

Yes, it counts! That's on my list ... but I'm waiting until it's in paperback and dirt cheap on Amazon. And until I re-read all the other books in the series!

Pies and Prejudice: In Search of the North - Stuart Maconie
That is my most recent purchase as well.

I finally got a library card today though, so hopefully I won't be spending anywhere near what I have been on books.
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I just finished that last week. I couldn't put it down! That was my last book purchase. I'll pick up something at Borders for my trip back to Chicago on 24 Aug.
