Car Insurance using US insurance history
« on: August 13, 2007, 05:51:30 PM »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me...  Ive recently returned from the US after 5 years and have gone to get car insurance only to be told by one direct supplier that the 5 years no claims history I have in the US wont be taken into account here in the UK.

Is this really the case... does anyone have any better news or ideas on insurance companies that do take it into account?

many thanks Mark

Did you bring a letter from your US insurer stating your no claims status? I asked Geico to provide a letter, and used it to get my no claims bonus in the UK through Norwich Union.

courtney - if you had geico in the US, you could have probably had them in the UK - you should check into that - it could be cheaper.  There are a couple of US insurance companies that can cover you in the UK.  USAA is another one - just fyi!

Geico UK was the first company I called and their rates were stupidly expensive! I told them so.  ;D

I used a broker and found a fab rate through NU.  :)

I got mine wih Tesco, and they honored a letter from my US insurance company, which was a very local one! (nothing big as Geico and the equals!).

Remember that you will need the original letter, not fax or scans!
