First Year Filing With UK Income
« on: March 19, 2004, 03:10:28 PM »
Hiya
I'm not on here often, but figured this would be the best place to ask my question. :)  I earned less than 10K this year, as I'm only working part-time in the UK.  I have no US income to declare.  On the 1040 I was sent by the IRS, it said UK income did not need to be declared (I have lived fulltime in the UK since 2001).  I just want to clarify, do I really not need to declare my UK income on the 1040 form?

Thank you very much, in advance!!

Sorry another question, Helen! Thank you for all your help on this, btw. It really is greatly appreciated.

When putting in the total pay I've gotten in the UK, for the 1040, I only put in the net pay, correct?  Meaning, I don't add to the net pay with UK taxes taken out, for the total pay box?

Thank you again!

Mmkay, so that might have been a stupid question.  I have a feeling I'd only mark down my net pay for the year, so I'm not taxed on the amount that's already been taken out for UK taxes from my pay. But just in case, figured I'd ask... :-[

Hi there

You should report you income GROSS of UK taxes withheld, National Insurance contributions, pension con, etc.... The UK taxes that you pay is calimed as a credit (if your gross earnings are over the $80,000) on 1116.

Hope this helps.
