what line at heathrow?
« on: March 19, 2004, 03:59:19 PM »
In just one short week Im off to settle in London, with fiance visa in hand - I am wondering what line I go through at immigration with my visa - I can't remember if the "British passports" line is also for people with leave to enter visas or not - do I get to go through the quicky line for UK passports, or do I have to go through "Foreign passports" line?

Foreign passports, first time. At the discretion of the immigration officer, any future trips, accompanied by your spouse (hopefully by then) can be done through the UK passport desk.

This does depend on the entry point (ie- gatwick, heathrow, waterloo [Eurostar], etc). :)

I will be entering at Heathrow, not accompanied by spouse - he will be waiting for me, hopefully with flowers!  ;)

This was my first time thru with new visa. I assumed that I had to go thru the one that said us passports with visas (which is the one I took). My husband went on his own thru the eu (uk) with all the others. I didn't know that we could go together as spouses. At JFK, they let us go together in the u.s. line even tho he has a uk passport.

I'm with Sherry.  For the first time coming in, go through the foreign passports line as if you were a tourist.  After that, whichever line is shortest is the way we go!

First time, yes, go through the foreign line. They'll have some things to ask you, and a few things to advise you on as well. But any subsequent, well, I'm not sure of hard and fast rules. My own personal preference had been to go through the shortest line when with UK family members, and go through the foreign line if entering the UK by myself. (However, I have dual citizenship now and it's not an issue any longer.)

Some airport terminals have a UK residents line, which you will be with your visa.
