Coach Trips
« on: March 22, 2004, 04:57:41 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this has been covered before but I hope someone can help.

My husband will be going away for six months shortly (well he's away now but I am able to talk and see him every now and again :-) ).  But I'm thinking of things to do to occupy my time while he's not around and one thought I had was to take like excursions and day trips via coach.

However I'm having trouble finding any sort of company in my area that does this.  I was just wondering if anyone has ever done this and where I should start looking?

Thank you for your help as always!!!

Maureen

Not sure where you live and where the coaches may stop near you, but try this site:

http://www.nationalexpress.com/neh.cfm

It is the website of the largest coach company in the UK

In my county, Wiltshire, they have Day Rover bus passes. You buy for the day and can go on just about every bus within X-area...Wiltshire and surrounding. That's probably not what you're talking about since they are more "buses" rather than "coaches". But it's one of those options that might be a fun day just going wherever you feel like, and if it exists here, you might have it where you are.

National Express site you were pointed to above is about the only non-tour-specific company I am aware of, but that's not bankable advice.

However, you might want to ask a travel agent...they often run day trips <wherever> and typically they can hook you up with groups so you can spend time with others if you like.

Here are some coach company excursions leaving from the Gosport area:
(sound like fun!):
- Coliseum Coaches: http://www.coliseumcoaches.co.uk/excursns.shtml
- Angela Holidays: http://www.angelaholidays.co.uk/british_summer_2004.htm

And here's a site that lists other coach companies:
Portsmouth tourism: http://www.portsmouthand.co.uk/business/tourism/coachops.cfm
Married to Graham, we run our own open-source computer training company in beautiful Wiltshire out of our 1814 Georgian Regency home (a former lodging house and once featured in Antiques Roadshow)

Hi Lou & Lisa,

Thanks so much for your help!! Lou I take National Express to the airport all the time that's about all they do around here. But thanks  :)

Lisa you found exactly what I was looking for, thank you.. I seriously must be lacking in patience because I'm sure if I looked harder I probably would have found the same thing... I just don't seem to be with it these days  :(

Thanks Again for your help.

Maureen

Our local paper, the Yorkshire Evening Post, often advertise day coach excursions to places of interest, which they seem to organise. Might be worth looking in your local paper to see if there's anything similar. Also, as you're near Southampton/Portsmouth, might there be some good offers day trips to France?

I wonder if Wallace Arnold would be worth looking at?  They are a well-established and reputable company, and I've known several people who have enjoyed tours with them:

I can recommend Angela Holidays. My daughter and I used them for a coach trip to Monet's Garden a couple of years back. Had a cool driver and the hotels we stayed in were clean and affordable....

Enjoy!!!!!!!!! I, for one, enjoy letting someone else do the driving...even if I tend to be the youngest one on the coach sometimes..lol

Thanks, Everyone!!!

All of these are great!!!

I'm just looking for 1 day excursions for now and then when he leaves I'll probably move onto longer trips.   At least this will get missing him a bit out of my mind.

Thanks again!

Maureen
