Ruby Wax, Virgin Media ads

1. Only Siouxsie Sioux can pull Goth off well into middle age.

2. Could she look anymore like death warmed over?

3. What were they aiming for? Seriously, she looks awful.

I like me some Ruby Wax, especially in small, small doses such as a 30 second ad, but this is just terrible.

That is all.

Honestly, I hate all the Virgin Media ads.

LOL!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

She's definately an acquired taste. I've no idea why the Brits love her. Or like her.

Can't wait for Siouxsie's new album  [smiley=smitten.gif]

Same here.  Those Uma Thurman ads were lame, too.

Haven't seen the ads, do you have a link? I used to love Ruby Wax's celeb interviews where she went to their homes and took the micky out of them. Anyone remember the Imelda Marcos one? Or OJ Simpson, that bit at the end where he was totally creepy??

As for Siouxsie ... well as an 80s goth I don't want to be disloyal to the High Priestess of Punk, but the only pics I've seen of her lately (yesterday's Sunday Times) have been so heavily airbrushed it doesn't even look like her any more.

You have a point about the airbrushing. Let's just say they absolutely did not airbrush Ruby Wax whatsoever.

Ruby's grown on me, but I can't figure out why the Brits go for her.

Well I can only speak for myself, not the entire nation, and while she is somewhat "in your face" that's quite refreshing. Also, I find her particular brand of humour quite clever. Those interviews I mentioned before were really fascinating because of the way she was able to get people to open up to her then basically drop themselves right in it ... similar to what Louis Theroux does these days, but more humorous. I'd put her on a par with Clive James in terms of her wit and social commenatry.  But I can quite see why she would not be everyone;s cup of tea, there is something a bit manic about her.

My favourite Ruby Wax bit was when she and Carrie Fisher went to stay on a dude ranch to find Carrie a man. Hilarious.

I remember her interviewing Fergie at her house....she got her to admit something...can't recall what it was but it was a big faux pas at the time.

I loved her dinner parties that were taped with celeb guests. I remember a memorable one with David Baddiel admitting he liked anal sex and another with that Arquette brother (before he had the sex change) saying how Robert Downey Jr was a closet gay, hence the drug problems..... and another marvellous one with Michael Gambon talking about his audition to be James Bond....  And the late John Diamond talking about his battle with throat cancer while he smoked away....
