Hi,
I live pretty much in the middle of Birmingham and there are several more of us on the board too.  I see your name is birm13 which is the postal address of Moseley where I live!  Moseley is terrific, bohemian, lots going on, plenty of pubs and nightlife with several parks close by yet only 10 minutes from the centre.  Will you be working in the city centre?  Harborne is popular with medics, Selly Oak with students, Kings Heath is a mixed sort of area.

We live on the border of Selly Oak and Harborne, with an Edgbaston postcode  :)  We love the neighborhood and its proximity to the city centre.  Areas with a bad reputation that I was told to avoid when moving here include Smethwick, Handsworth, Aston, and Perry Barr.  Barnt Green is a very lovely area...if you can afford to live there.  It's just south of Birmingham.

Several of my co-workers live in Solihull, specifically Shirley, and they really like living there.

Another are of Solihull to mention is Dickens Heath.  When I joined an American West Midlands club I was amazed at how many Americans lived in Dickens Heath.

Hi there,

There's hundreds of Indian shops throughout birmingham - I do have friends of the family on the outskirts of Handsworth / Sandwell and I'm pretty sure they do all their Indian shopping in handsworth centre, loads of shops to choose from...
Also, I'd say pretty much most other areas with concentrations of us Indian's in will have a good selection of shops - just depends on how far and where you decide to live from those main areas which determines which area(s) you'll be able and want to shop in...

Solihull can be expensive so try just "over the border" in Hall Green. That's where I'm from (Baldwins Lane off the Robin Hood Island for those who know it).
