do i have to tell anyone i'm moving?
« on: September 08, 2007, 02:04:25 PM »
Hello all,

Random question, not sure if it belongs on this board so feel free to move it if it's not in the right place.

I moved to England last September to be with my husband who's a British citizen, so I am one year into my spousal and will go for my ILR next September. He's got a new job so in a few weeks we're going to be moving away from the address that is on all the paperwork for the visa. So is there anyone that I have to notify to tell them that I'll be at a different address to the one that they have a record of me being at? I'm going to change all the bills over of course, and put a mail forward on our old address in case anything comes through, but I'm not sure if I would have to like, write to the Home Office or something and tell them I'm moving.

Thanks!

Nope. You don't need to notify the government of your move, immigration-wise.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

An interesting thing and sort of related to your question michellse_nine: I was on the phone speaking with a woman from my bank and I was explaining that I was moving overseas.  She said something like, "Since 9 / 11 I'm pretty sure it many no longer be legal to hold a US bank account if you no longer have a US address."  The bank lady said my bank would not mail me my statements overseas, but that if I wanted to list my mom's address as my address (and that's where my statements would be mailed to) that was fine.  So now my mom will just forward me my bank stuff.

???
Our bank had no problem sending our statements to our UK address. I'd recommend asking someone else.

My bank in the US knows that I'm living in the UK, and they've never said anything about having to close my account. I don't think that lady knows what she was talking about.

Yep, that first lady I spoke with was way off.  I've got all my bank stuff changed to my UK address now.
