UK TV show wants a US Driving Instructor
« on: September 09, 2007, 05:38:19 PM »
Hi

My name is Jonas and I develop new TV shows for a UK TV company.

We have a new driving show in development for a major UK TV network and I'm trying to find a US driving instructor to star in it. This is no exaggeration - if the show is picked up, this person will become a TV star in the UK.

Ideally we want someone who is a real character - if they are ex-military or ex-police, that would be ideal. The kind of person we're after is basically a tough, no nonsense, straight talking guy, who also has a sense of humour. I know most driving instructors are nice, mild mannered people but this isn't really what we're after... We want a ball buster!

This person would need to be available for a period of filming in the UK late this year or early next.

This is a life changing opportunity for the right person.

Thanks for your time

Have you tried contacting any of the DMV's (Departments of Motor Vehicles) or MVA's (Motor Vehicle Administrations) in the States? (MVA may only apply to Maryland. I think most states' vehicle administrations are called DMV's.) I got my driver's license from a hardass in Maryland, which has an MVA vs. DMV, but that was years ago. Anyway, I must ask: Why would anyone in the UK be interested in an American driving instructor? Also, are you talking about the person who actually teaches you to drive, or the person who tests you before you can get a driver's license?

Jonas,

Have you driven in the US? I don't think instructors exist here. You just show up, complete a multi-guess test, and they hand over a license.  ;D

Sorry, just a little burned after 10 yrs on DC roads....

I had a guy who was just as you describe, but he was from Yorkshire. Ex-military, ex-hazardous tanker driver and police driver trainer, and he started teaching kids after his son got into an accident. Meanest bugger I ever met, but he got me and my three siblings through the test with flying colors.

Actually they do exist here in Texas.Texas still requires 14 hours in car instruction for teenagers to get their license. I'm in my 30's so it's been quite a while since I got my DL but my driving instructor was exactly who Jonas wants. He was pretty intimidating.

Jonas, I would try contacting driving schools here in the states and trying to get intouch with the instructors.

Just to clarify...

Yes I want the guy who teaches you how to drive...

I know it's a long shot but I'm posting on this board cos I was hoping there might be someone who fits the bill who is resident in the UK. I am also contacting the DMVs and also the Driving School Association of the Americas but it'd be really handyif our instructor was already based over here...

Thanks for you posts - keep 'em coming...
