Giants vs Miami in London
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:41:40 AM »
Finally got tickets from the 3rd random draw on this game!  Probably the worst seats in the stadium, Section 518 but that's fine.

Personally I don't care for either team but my Dad is a HUGE Giants fan and he is visiting at the same time as this game.  He's only been to one other live game before because he lives to far away and Giants tickets are hard to come by.

No real reason for the post, just glad I finally got the tickets!

The new Wembley Stadium, I'm hoping even the worst of seats (I assume that's what I got) have decent views of the action!

Either I'll be in the States, and/or we'll have moved hours from London by then. I'd love nothing more, though, than for my husband to go to an actual game, rather than see one on TV a day later, early in the morning. Somebody, PLEASE root for the Dolphins.

Sorry, as I mentioned my Dad is a Giants fans and I'm a Patriots fan (pre-superbowl victories, no bandwagon here) so I will be cheering against Dolphins to help out my boys.

Suzanne - I will TOTALLY be rooting for the fins even if I don't end up with tickets. Both my parents are huge Dolphin fans and I grew up watching them play! I miss the days of Dan Marino personally  ;D

Ocean,

Dan Marino still holds all the records for best quarterback ever. I admire how he was loyal to the Dolphins, even though the various owners were too cheap to get other really good players on the team. They seemed to think that just having a good quarterback alone would save the day. I'm so, so sorry he retired without having a Super Bowl ring. But anyway, I agree with you, too. I loved to watch him play. His passes were SO accurate. I don't think there's anyone who could say a word against him. Plus, he has an autistic son, and he publicly appeals for autism support now.

Best wishes, fellow Dolphin fan,

Suzanne

Anyone watching?

Sorry Suzanne - I'm a HUGE Giants fan!  We have season tickets.
Sorry to report, Dolphins received first and missed the field goal.

I just noticed that it's only the first quarter and they are ripping the turf.  The pitch is going to be a mess after this game!

Sorry - I'm in US.  Maybe it's not on in the UK...I wouldn't be surprised.

It's on FOX here, but only if you normally get the Giants or Dolphins.  I think if you are in another part of the county you are going to get your local team.

Here in MA I have the game. They're showing the torn up grass right now!

What percentage of the crowd do you think are ex-pats?

the grass is too short.  I'm hoping no one get's hurt.

I don't know.  I know there are at least 6...My dad, brother and their entourage!  Everytime they show the crowd there are many wearing NY or Miami jerseys.

WHOOHOO!  Eli just scored!

My thoughts on the game:

*It was absolutely POURING RAIN!  Luckily we were upper deck (on 50-yard line  :)) so we didn't get wet.  The players were having a tough time in the conditions.  Great advert for Britain for those watching in US - stereotypical rain!

*Being a Miami "home game" the announcer was the Dolphins guy.  Quite annoying for all the Giants fans.  What was funny was I guess they are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Miami perfect season, all these clips on how great they were - amusing when they are just the opposite so far this year, 0-8!

*Some US traditions were just funny to see in the UK - like cheerleaders.  Although the Brits sitting next to me took more pictures of them than the players.

*Definitely more Brits than Expats/Americans.  Well, at least as far as I can tell from the singing of the national anthems - the Brits were much louder.  Maybe the Americans just didn't sing theirs.

*The game is sooooo slow to watch live.  at home you don't notice all the TV breaks but you do in the stadium.  I think the sport is too slow compared to Soccer/Rugby/etc to catch on here.

*They got us out super quick - a huge mass of people walking to the tube but I never had to slow my pace and just walked on a train.  They must have had a lot waiting for the end of the game.

Great stadium, and easy to get to for Londoners - I was home on the opposite side of town just 1 hour after the game ended!
