Hi all
I am writing to see if any woman age 18 and older living in the UK would be willing to receive information on a study in which I am participating.
The Breakthrough Generations study of the causes of breast cancer is a national study that will include over 100,000 women in the UK. It will be the largest, longest running scientific study that Breakthrough Breast Cancer has undertaken and will give information for the next 40 years and longer. The study follows the method first used over 40 years ago in the US by the American Cancer Society to investigate whether cigarette smoking caused lung cancer. Members of the Society were asked to recruit their friends and relatives and 70,000 members managed to recruit over 1 million study participants.
If you are interested in hearing more about this study, please send me a PM with your contact details (name, postal address, and telephone number) which will I will forward to the study investigators. You are under no obligation to participate and will only be sent more information from Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
I was invited to participate by a coworker, and after my details were passed on, I received a mailing which provided me more information on the study and asked whether I would be willing to participate. I indicated I would and now have received a detailed questionnaire to complete and have been asked to have blood drawn at my GP which I am planning to do next week.
Many of you have been personally affected in some way by cancer, and the potential benefit to women's health of a study of this nature is tremendous. As a former clinical cancer researcher, I am keenly aware of how vital participation in research studies is and I would be very pleased to pass on your contact details if you are willing.
Thanks for reading!
