I keep seeing people mention deviled eggs on their menus, so I thought I'd share my favorite recipe for those.  Not sure where I picked it up (it's not my original creation), but I sure do find it yummy!

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs

12 eggs
1/2 c mayonnaise
4 slices bacon
2 T finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 T mustard
sour cream to taste
green onion, chopped, for garnish

Boil and peel eggs.

Cook bacon until evenly brown.  Crumble and set aside.

Cut eggs in half length-wise.  Remove yolks to a small bowl.  Mash egg yolks with mayo, bacon, and cheese.

Stir in mustard.  Add sour cream as needed to smooth mixture.  Put mixture in a plastic bag, cut off corner, and pipe into egg white halves.  Refrigerate until serving.

Also, a note about hard-boiling eggs in general: I read somewhere and have since found it to be tried and true... however you boil your eggs, add a bit of baking soda either just before they're done, or when they are done, and cover for a minute or two.  Then, when you peel them, the baking soda will have helped break down the tissue that holds the eggshell on, and they'll come off more easily.  It's also easier to peel them while warm, rather than after letting them go cold.

Okay, so I decided we're having Thanksgiving.

We went to Tesco's last night and bought a 6lb turkey breast and a roasting pan, I have my mom's stuffing recipe, we have potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots....now I just need to figure out how to make gravy that's not full of lumps (I'm horrible at making gravy!), figure out dessert, and buy cranberry sauce (is it available?). This evening we're headed over to ASDA to look for some stuff we couldn't find at Tesco - including a turkey baster! 

I've never actually cooked ANY part of Thanksgiving dinner before, other than maybe the vegetable.  EEP. Thank goodness it's just Tim and I (so far) for dinner at noon before he heads off to work.

Good for you!  I always used Bisto for gravy -- never had any lump problems.  Save a little of the turkey juice in the roasting pan to give it some flavor and use the water you boiled the potatoes in for the vitamins!  I gave up on the giblet business because nobody liked it, except the cat!
You can get cranberry sauce -- but I think it comes in a glass jar not a can.

Thanks! I'll be sure to look for it in a jar. 

I'm nervous, but I think I'll be okay.  I just hope I can remember to thaw the turkey....because that would be a little embarrassing....

A wire whisk takes care of most lumps. :)

If you can't find cranberry sauce but can find fresh berries, making your own sauce is easy peasy and takes about five minutes.

Not just embarrassing, m'dear, but could be downright lethal if its only partially thawed!!  I always try to get a fresh turkey for that reason -- but that means last minute shopping.  Ugh.

yes, I can laugh about it now, but a semi-frozen turkey does not make for an enjoyable thanksgiving.

Yeah, I made fresh berry sauce last year (in the US), but I was looking at Tesco and didn't see the berries...we're heading to ASDA and I might go into town to the market at some point this week, too.

Not just embarrassing, m'dear, but could be downright lethal if its only partially thawed!!  I always try to get a fresh turkey for that reason -- but that means last minute shopping.  Ugh.

If the turkey isn't thawed in time, I probably wouldn't attempt to cook it and would wait until the following day if I needed to...but it would really ruin the whole "let's have Thanksgiving" thing if I had to do it on another day.

I've yet to find any canned pumpkin in my area-instead I'm going to try a sweet potato pie.  Now I have had it before but never made it.  Any hints/suggestions?

How long does it take to thaw a frozen turkey?  A few days?  My butcher can't even get a fresh one, they are all frozen around here.  I'm going shopping tomorrow, I suppose I could just put it in the fridge tomorrow and leave it there until Thursday.  What do you think?

Depends on the weight:

Turkey Thawing Time in the Refrigerator (40 degrees F):
Approximately 24 hours per 5 pounds
Whole Turkey Weight    Thawing Time
8 to 12 lbs    1 to 2 days
12 to 16 lbs    2 to 3 days
16 to 20 lbs    3 to 4 days
20 to 24 lbs    4 to 5 days

Turkey Thawing Time in Cold Water: Approximately 30 minutes per pound.
Change water every 1/2 hour.

This is from Global Gourmet website.  They recommend NOT thawing at room temp. (except for the cold water technique)

Awesome!  Not sure what size I am getting, but I will follow the 24 hours per 5 lb guideline (well, it probably won't have the weight listed in pounds on the package, will it?  Man, I suck at conversions!  I suppose I will get used to it sometime...)
So far I am cooking for 8 - 11 people.... yikes!!!!   :o
I'm excited, but really getting a bit nervous about getting everything cooked properly with such a small oven... we will see how it goes!!!

I did this the first year I lived in the UK (couldn't find pumpkin in any form at the time).  Just peel and cook the sweet potato until soft, mash it (add a little of the water you boiled it in if it's too thick), and then use it exactly the same way you would the canned pumpkin.  I don't taste a huge difference between the two, to be honest, but that may be the spices helping out. 
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
