« on: September 18, 2007, 03:07:03 PM »
I don't understand why after driving in this country for 12 months with my US licence that I have to take my theory and practical test. Seems a bit a** backwards to me.  ???

Wish me luck, I have my theory on the 29th.  :-\\\\

Good to see you again, and I'll keep my fingers crossed the test goes your way  :D

I had my first driving lesson yesterday, I figured I should brush up a bit. It wasn't as bad as I thought and my teacher is very helpful. I'll probably do between 3-5 more before my test. It was a pain looking for someone to give me lessons, apparently you have to go to a "special" school if you drive an automatic.  :-[

I'm doing lessons on an automatic (why complicate things? ;D) through BSM...I just called them up and they set me up with an instructor right then and there.

I actually think it's a good thing.  By the time I took my lessons I had been driving for 12 months (yes I was driving illegally for the last couple of months- oops!) and was really confident out on the roads.  I was an absolute wreck when I first started to drive here. I would grip the wheel for dear life and ride the gutter.  All the weird signs and crazy round-abouts!!  After 12 months of driving it was a piece of cake- ok so maybe not but not so bad.

Meg, I used BSM and I thought they were great.  I didn't do an automatic because our car is a stick and no way we were buying a new car so.... In the end its worked out all right- you get used to it.

Good luck Alz!!

Yeah, my BSM guy is awesome.  I'm definitely going to get him to teach me how to pass the full test.  Since we have an automatic - Chris is not the world's most confident driver (he just got his license last summer), and I haven't driven a stick in years (could probably get someone to the hospital if necessary, but am terrified of rolling backwards!) - we decided that what with the 12 month deadline and the fact that we don't even own a stick that I'd just test for the automatic now and do the full test later.

I once rolled all the way down a hill in MA.  The only reason I stopped was there was a car that turned onto the road- I ended up getting out and telling the guy to go around me.  He was really nice and pulled the car over for me and turned it around.  I was SOOOOOO nervous and hot and flushed and sweaty.  God just thinking about it makes me laugh.
