Rye
« on: October 02, 2007, 08:14:25 PM »
I have some friends coming in from the US and want us to go with them to spend a day in Rye (take the train from London). Has anyone ever done this? Is Rye a good place for a day trip?

Enjoy. I drove through Rye but definitely thought the train is accessible to town.

Yes, the train's at the foot of the hill. The main road bridge out of town on the A259 is shut down for the month of October. That'll probably mean less cars in Rye and a better experience for a tourist on foot, but don't plan on hiring a car and driving East or anything. Nor buses neither.

Thanks for that information! I am looking forward to visiting a new place!

Rye is one of my favorite places in the south, hubby and i visit there at least 3 times a year and eat in one of the cute little restaurants..we love the little antique shops and have come home with many nice things...the cobbled streets are so cool and we have fish and chips on the grass by the cute harbor in the summer...camber sands beach is nearby..you mite want to check that out as well...not sure if there is enough to do in rye for a whole day..

The Camber Road is on the other side of the closed bridge, so you'd have to hoof it. You could get down to Rye Harbour, but that's not quite the same.
