June...that is such a gorgeous cake! My 7 (almost 8) year old now wants that cake for her birthday (yeah right). What did you use for the frosting?

Thanks!  I used fondant, known as sugarpaste in the UK.

Lovely cake. What do you use for the colourings? Do you use colour pastes? I like the boldness of the shades.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL cake.  I'm very impressed.  You really should open up your own shop.  I'm sure you'd do extremely well. :)

Thanks!  I used fondant, known as sugarpaste in the UK.

June, I'm doing another sugarcraft class now. This one is slightly different from the other one I took - we'll be doing a Christmas cake, but are also experimenting with transferring cartoon characters, magazine pics, etc. to cakes, as well as making 3D figures. Anyway, for cutting out shapes, my tutor recommends using 50/50 paste, which is a mixture of fondant (sugarpaste) and flower paste. Apparently the fondant gives it some strength, but the flower paste helps it dry faster and become more 'stiff.'

Just thought you might want to know!  :)

Interesting to know!  Good luck on your class!  I start a Wilton course today, the first one.  I want to learn to pipe decorations.

I used gel paste colors from Americolor.  I used the shades called electric green and electric pink.  Squires Kitchen in the UK have a great paste color selection as does Sugarflair.

June your cakes are always awesome. I agree with the others that you should be doing this, you're so creative about the decorating.

The classes are the Wilton classes and they are mostly offered at Michael's.  I am in the US now but I know of a store in North London that offers them too.
