Weirdest fried food item
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:41:12 PM »
Okay I just survived a quick shopping trip to WalMart without buying anything extra!  So I am on my way out the door when I pass the Deli counter and see:  Corn on the cob....DEEP FRIED!  Poor corn.   :P This ranks up there with fried pickles and twinkies.  So what's the oddest thing you have seen people fry or even the grossest?
;D

Deep fried sausage, hamburgers, Mars Bars, pizza, black pudding, pineapple rings ... Just wait until you get over here.  ;)

I don't know about the weirdest but I'm a new convert to deep fried pizza and the deep fried macaroni pie.  [smiley=smitten.gif]

I think the Mars Bar is pushing the limit of what should be done to chocolate though.  :-/

Corn??? That's just wrong.  :P

Deep fried pizza is kind of like those Jeno pizza rolls I guess.

I've never had Jenos pizza rolls but the deep fried pizzas that I've had have just been a regular pizza with whatever toppings you want on them, it's folded in half and then dunked in luscious boiling fat.  :D

End result, nice crispy outside...yummy gooey inside.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

There's a new desert over here...called the Suicide Sarnie (not the official name).

It's made of two slices of bread liberally coated in chocolate, then dipped in batter...then deep fried before being served up with chocolate sauce and icecream...

Over 1000 calories.

I kid you not.

One of my all time favorite deep fried semi-weird thing is the Monte Cristo sandwich from Bennigans. It's a sandwich with ham, turkey and 2 kinds of cheese cut into 4 triangles, dipped in batter and deep fried and then sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam to dip it in. Sounds disgusting but is YUM! :P

mushy pea fritters!
I kid you not. Take mushy peas and mush them into  baseball size with your hands. Batter and deep fry.

::) Lord.....and serve with fried bread right?  :P I guess in a world where we sell fried fat (pork rinds) and pay extra for the crispy bits of fried batter at Long John Silvers nothing is sacrosanct.

Does anyone remember the episode of 'Men Behaving Badly' where Dorothy was so angry with Gary for giving her a deep-fat fryer for Christmas that she deep fried his mobile phone ?;D

LOL, HME!

peeps, our local chippy sells the left-over crispy bits, too!

It always gives me a chuckle whenever we go in one of our local pubs -- they offer "vegetarian meals" on their menu. Basically, they put every non-meat item they serve on the plate: chips, pita bread, peas, corn, salad, pasta...

What is it with serving chips with lasagne?
