Crispin Glover as Grendel???

And worse... Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mother?!?!?!
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

Have you seen the trailer?  It's... animated.

"I'm here to kill ya Monstah!!!"

That bit had DH and I rolling on the floor it was sooo funny!  Sorry, but this definitely isn't the Beowulf of the legend.  :\\\'(

Rent Beowulf and Grendal.  It was quite good.  Not very hyped though but sticks to the basic original story.  :D

Gerard Butler is Beowulf.

Chee-zee!  Although Neil Gaiman did co-write it, so it does have a teeny bit of cred.  Sadly, not enough. :(

Yeah, I saw that.  But, as much as Neil is awesome and all, he is a fantasy writer.  And from the trailer, it has been made very fantastical.  Maybe I am a purist, but, Beowulf is one of those things that you just don't mess with.

I'm with you, believe me.  I guess I'm just trying to find some way to justify it, you know? :-\\\\

The only good thing I can see about this is it's making me want to drag my copy out of the closet and give it another read.

It's brilliant!  He was a guest lecturer at my Uni my last semester and I took his course.  Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant man.  Did I mention that it was brilliant?  :P  ;)  ;D

Honestly, I'll have to check. It's been in a box of books stacked up with other boxes of books for years. If not, maybe it's a good reason to buy a new copy :D

Yeah, that's exactly what I did when I heard about the film (and saw the..GHASTLY trailer); scurried down to the bookshop and picked up a copy (mine fell apart quite some time ago).

I can't understand why anyone ANYONE would make a film of Beowulf. It's like kicking Bambi. You just don't do it. And does anyone else get a bit of a 300 rip-off vibe from it?

THIS! IS! SPARTA!
I! AM! BEOWULF!

I mean, really.  :-X
It was most definitely...a THING.

I went to see it, my best friend's bf really wanted to he had to do a huge research paper on Beowulf at college.

It wasn't that bad, but then I saw it in 3-D IMAX, so a lot of time I was ohhing and ahhing.
