We have it! We purchased it through SKY. We had to get a BT line installed but in time it will pay off.

Hiya
yeh lots of deals similar to this in alot of places, maybe couple pounds a month difference though.

However, only one that I know of allows the same deal on a mobile phone - it's pricer though £19.99/month - I've mentioned it before Swiftcall.co.uk

all the 'cheaper' options mean I have to make calls from my landline at home - doesn't suti me as I'm at the office most the time.

So for those of you who'll be in similar circumstances, I'd suggest getting the swiftcall option if you do get a mobile phone (you dont have to have a BT line to get this either) else the 'cheapest' way of all to call home is to take a laptop to Mcdonalds, connect to their free wifi service and call home using skype/vonage !

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!

I see that it says for "up to an hour".  Does this mean, say, after 58 minutes I can hang up and call again starting a new hour?

yes. But if you go over the hour they'll sock it to ya with a nice hefty bill so I always watch the time.

hiya

On the swiftcall service, if it hits the 75 minute mark (the cutoff) it automatically pops up an announcement and then cuts the call. Just redial! so no need to keep a track of the time ! :)

I have no idea if other services do that - i've never needed to find out!

It's perfect for us as my niece and nephew can call their mum in Cali without a care for watching clocks or costs!

I have this with Sky Talk, sounds like the same thing. It's great. If they had cable internet here instead of broadband, though, I'd use that and not get BT phone lines. Then I would get Vonage, which for a small fee more gives you a U.S. number for relatives to call you on in addition to a UK number. The whole package price would end up the same or less than the BT phone line.

Anyhow, it seems like the times I've gone over an hour and didn't hang up and call back but rather kept on talking, the per minute rate they charge is still really low (this is with Sky Talk, don't know about BT).

we have virgin media, and we get free calls to the US included in our monthly package (something like 300 minutes a month with rollover so it's usually about 400 minutes a month or so in practice.)  Pretty neat!

Do you mean the Virgin package?    The BT package should be available everywhere, if you have a BT line.

the virgin/sky/tiscali package- the one that ties phone/broadband/phone together.

Thought you did mean those, but just checking.  I haven't looked into the details of those, but they're quite possibly available only where the operator concerned has LLU presence at the local telephone exchange (see Geeta's thread about slow DSL speeds for an explanation).

yep!  i think we went over this a few months ago... i'm gonna just be patient and wait until my (12) BT contract is out.  i'll recheck is one of those packages are available as they seem like the best deal (£ wise).  thanks.
