Resetting channels without a remote control
« on: December 18, 2007, 05:35:29 AM »
Anyone know how to do this?
I know I'm in the US, but I think it's universal... 'cept the remote disappeared ages ago, and guess who accidentally hit the 'channel' button when she thought she was hitting 'volume' - only hours after the cable guy left... >:(

I've been on hold for 1/2 hour now... have searched the internet...

Is there are a bit on the front of the TV set that pulls down to reveal the manual controls?

Nope.  Hardly anything, which makes it that much more frustrating.
Looks like I'll have to go buy a universal remote and hope that solves it.  :(

(it has to be on channel 3 but of course goes from 2 to 4).

Can you hook it up to a VCR and use the channel tuner on that? That's the only other thing I can think of.

Nope!  It's a combo unit (tv/vcr) which is actually a BIG problem, according to the Verizon guy.
Thanks for trying :) - still trying to figure things out around this house; NO idea what someone would have done with the bloody remote!

Anyhoo, a good excuse to go to WalMart.

I think it's universal...

Not really; the programming on different sets can vary from model to model.  Sometimes you can reset defaults by holding one or more buttons down while switching on, sometimes you just hold a certain combination of buttons for several seconds and it will reset.   But there's no fixed method.

(it has to be on channel 3 but of course goes from 2 to 4).

You could change the RF output on the cable converter to channel 4, assuming that it isn't in use by one of your local broadcast stations (American cable converters usually allow you to select ch. 3 or ch. 4, either via a menu option or with a switch on the rear).

Check the back of the set - sometimes there's an input selection button/switch there.

Don't go to Wal-Mart.  Let me live vicariously through you - go to Fry's! ;D

Is it plugged in?
Have you tried switching it on and off again?
(Yes, I love the IT Crowd.)

Yep, checked.  Nuthin.  About four controls on the front, and that. is. it.

I thought you did that already!

I cannot promise, as Wal-Mart is only a few blocks away!!!  And Fry's is 13 miles.

Thanks for the help all; I have turned it off/on, I have checked the switches, I have held down more than one button at a time, I have unplugged it and plugged it in again; I have yelled at it, I have cried in front of it, I have stared at it, and I have even asked it nicely.  And just like my ex...  I got nuthin.

Hopefully the technician will come by again and fix it (and EXPLAIN); I'll still be getting the universal remote for the next time some IDIOT does it again!

Sorted!!!   All by myself, thankyouverymuch.  *pats self on back*

And yes, I went to Frys, just for you missy.  ;)  Let me know if you'd like it described in detail.
And I even picked up a digital mp3 voice recorder that works on the mac!  yeay!

Yay!  Are the shelves by the registers still crammed with caffeine, sugar, and girlie mags? :D

Pretty much!  Though the magazines are first, in one big section before you round the corner to the low-list edibles.  Then a lovely girl wished me a happy holiday and told me that number 23 was open.
It was pleasantly not too busy, which relieved me.
