I too vote for Emily, she is just amazing but her organizational skills have let her down in a couple of the challenges this week so am afraid that will really go against her.  James is a real leader and leadership skills are very important in a professional kitchen, he is also a fantastic cook so I think he will win.  Emily really impressed the chefs last night with her dessert so hopefully that will have put her ahead of James in that very important round.  Whatever happens Emily has it all going for her as she has been offered a place at Oxford, she is the type that will succeed.

Am rooting for James.. he's lovely. I like Emily alot and very impressed with her - blown away really - but I don't think she's ready yet. I imagine smug Aussie John will try to recruit her somehow..

I guess no one cares for "single dad Johnny"?  I try not to hurl things when he says he's doing it for the kids.... yeah, coz you'll see so much of them once you're working as a chef from morning thru night.. :P

Did anyone read the BBC mag about the last few years' winners and finalists? Only Thomasina Miers appeared to have a restaurant.. the rest were writing or catering..

Did anyone find the meal last night for the chefs remotely appealing????????

I find Aussie John soooo yummy!

Not me. He doesn't have that 'flair' that I see in both James and Emily.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I would have loved to have sat down to that meal! Wow!  ;D

Someone on another thread said the truffle sauce on the turbot looked like something that could be recreated in the bog after a night on the Guinness  ;D

I thought that younger French chef awfully dishy looking......

That is almost an exact quote of what my DH said when he saw it!  It must be true. Thankfully I don't drink Guinness!

Well, no surprises there. The Daily Mail pretty much spilled the beans today anyway as they had an interview with Emily who is at Oxford now.

I just wish James didn't bore me so much. Oh well.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I thought James was amazing, so I'm very pleased! Emily really was my favourite, but I don't think she's meant to work in a professional kitchen. That wasn't her forte throughout the whole competition. James will fit in easily and succeed. However, if/when Emily writes a cookbook, I'll be first in line to buy it!  ;D

Yeah, that's exactly what I told my DH! I really like Emily a lot but I'm so glad that James won.  He really deserved it.

That's a good thought about Emily writing a cookbook -- I'd probably buy it too.  :) She'll go very far.

I saw an article on Emily yesterday online so I figured she hadn't won it as they wouldn't run an article on her two days on the trot. She was great though. Ive spent alot of time with kids her age and i've NEVER seen one like her. She will skyrocket.. And reading English Lit at Oxford - a girl after my own heart.

I was very pleased and thought James lovely... love those curls... Cute toddler too.

I must admit the old mum hat went on when I saw how young Johnny's children were.....as a single parent, he needs to be around for them, especially his youngest who was what, 2? Maybe 3??? Especially with Mum not around???? he just left a bad taste in my mouth whenever I saw him..

I completely agree. Emily will be fine - she'll be a huge success regardless. I was SO happy James won.  :D

Yay for James!  Emily was very creative, but I never warmed to her.

I don't know if anyone's interested, but I have a list of all the professional kitchens the contestants worked in during the course of the series. I'm always collecting names of restaurants to bookmark for special occasions, so I thought perhaps others would like them too:

London Restaurants

The Forge in Covent Garden (Chef - Andy Barber)
Jaan Restaurant in Swissotel (Chef - Simon Duff)
Yakitoria (Chef - Ron Latey)
Automat American Brasserie in Mayfair (Chef - Sean Gilmore)

The Living Room also with locations in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Chester, York, Glasgow, Newcastle and Oxford (Chef at London venue - John Brannigan)
Shish Restaurant (Chef - Steve Bush; not the same chef as when episode was filmed)
Mosaico (Chef - Matteo Mistrorigo)
The Larder in Clerkenwell (Chef - Nick Male)
Chino Latino with locations in Nottingham and Leeds as well (Chef - Anthony Sousa-Tam)
City Cafe with other locations in Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and Manchester (Chef - Peter Lloyd)
Simpson's in the Strand (Chef - Gerry Rae)
The Goring in the Goring Hotel (Chef - Derek Quelch)
Artisan at the Westbury Hotel (Chef - Daniel Hillier
Refuel at the Soho Hotel (Chef - Robin Read)
Bluebird in Chelsea (Chef - Mark Broadbent)
Roast (Chef - Lawrence Keogh)
Brown's Bar & Brasserie in Covent Garden, with other locations in Bath, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Leeds, Oxford and Windsor (Chef at the Covent Garden venue - George Roberts)
Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill (Chef - Richard Corrigan)
Belvedere Restaurant in Holland Park (Chef - Billy Reid)
Awana (Chef - Lee Chin Soon)

Restaurants in France

Bras in Laguiole (Chefs - Michel & Sebastien Bras)
Troigros in Paris (Chef Michel Troigros)
Pierre Gagnaire in Paris (Chef - Pierre Gagnaire)

****

(I may have chefs' names wrong if there have been changes or updates that I didn't catch.)

Has anyone eaten at any of these? I'd love to hear some reviews!  :)

Thanks Chary for the info, I just said to DH a couple of weeks ago that I wish I had taken note of the restaurants as the food always looks so good and we never know where to eat in London, not that we are in London very often.
