UK Consulate NYC-Amazing
« on: April 13, 2004, 12:48:55 AM »
I am flipping out!  I got a call just a little while ago . . .from the British Consulate in NYC.  .  . asking for another copy of my marriage certificate. . . it is 2 business days after I sent it in and someone is looking at it and about to issue my entry clearance or something good for two years. For any one who has gone through the hell of US immigration you can understand my state of shock at this moment.   2 days?  WHAT!  I just am amazed.  I used fasttrack and sent in a whole notebook of stuff and they are already working on it.....
OMG!  Wow -someone pinch me.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!  [smiley=sunny.gif] [smiley=sunny.gif]

Thanks..they have not issued it yet, but I am still amazed.  It took us 4 months and two letters to a Senator and Representative and one call by a INS boss to just get a fiance visa for the USA.

Yep...the process going the other way is amazingly better.  Just goes to show it can be done!  Wish the American side of immigration would get their acts together.

Big congrats to you though, hun!  This is great news!!   :)

The feeling of relief once you get it, will be incredible :)  I guess it's because the US gets so many applicants, that the process takes so long to go that route. Or, it could just be that they are very mismanaged. Who knows. I dread when we do the repatriate thing. *gulp

wonderful for you!!  (& of course, your partner!)

and it gives much peace of mind to those of us who will be applying in the near future, (especially via fast-track) - =)

Only 4 months for a US finace visa!? That's incredibly fast! The processing times for the Texas Service Center when we applied for ours were up to about 9 months.  :o

Which is why we abandoned the application...and I got my fiancee visa for the UK back from the NYC Consulate in 10 days flat. I'm sure we're not the only ones who have had dealings with both systems, and have decided that the UK system comes out well ahead of the American one!

Congrats, and good luck with your move!

That's something that impresses me about the British system. They are speedy at opening things and getting the forms (passport, marriage certificate, etc.) back to you. At least that's been my experience.

But even though it was just a phone call asking for something, it's a nice reassurance they're actually looking at your stuff!

I think if people approached their jobs as feeling as though what they are doing for others is the most important thing in their lives (at least for the time being), things would work so much better. I dunno, let's say Mary works at the British Embassy and she comes in each day thinking "today I am going to change the lives of x number of people" and then go about her job actually feeling just how grateful everyone is that she's at her desk and helping them...wouldn't everyone's lives be enriched by that? Oh, just a side thought...early morning musing. LOL.

There's only one problem with showing appreciation. If I were sending in my forms and I wrote a 'thank you' note to the person processing my application, oh, I dunno, something along the lines of "Dear Mary, thank you so much for taking the time to look through my papers. I just wanted you to know how important your job is to me in making my future dreams come true." Sadly, such a thing would be seen as a bribe, or reason to look further at any illegal ulterior motive.
