CostCo question
« on: February 01, 2008, 08:12:56 PM »
Do the UK Costcos have pretty much the same stock as the US ones? I'm interested in potentially getting a membership especially as  I have friend who are interested in splitting on bulk and such. But one of the main things I'm interested in the potential to see a few familiar brands and products.

Somewhat...you won't find Charmin there, or Downy. For those items they tend to carry UK equivalent brands. On the other hand, it is one of the few places I have been able to find American stables like Skippy peanut butter or tortilla chips & salsa.

Oh if it were only that easy. I got Skippy and 3M sponges and that's about it. I guess it depends what you're looking for. I haven't noticed many American products there though.

They have a few US products, not too many. Its mostly UK big name products, I live right near my Costco, if we didn't live right near it, I don't know if it would be worth having a membership.

There are a few costco threads on here..  We've discussed this one a lot.

I go once a month.  It is exactly the same as costco in the US.  They carry all the kirkland brands.  We get skippy peanut butter and oreo cookies there but also things like laundry soap and cleaners are much, much cheaper.  I also get a great big bag of flour because Costco is the only place I can get something more than a pint sized bag.

Basically, it makes us feel like we're in North America which is why we like it.

You can also buy real maple syrup and real pure vanilla extract for a fraction of the price you would pay at the grocery stores.  I also buy all of my beef from there, it's much better than you can buy elsewhere and of course cheaper too.  I'd say it is definately worth keeping your card.

Maybe your Costco is different from mine, but... mine is not *exactly* the same as the US Costco i visited.

Ours has essentially the same lay-out as the ones we went to in North America.  (Canada and the US)

Holy cow! My folks were out here when I moved because they wanted the vacation (they hadn't had a vacation in YEARS) and we stopped by Tescos a few times for sandwiches and such and holy heck if the itty bitty parking spaces didn't have us sweating bullets every time we tried to park!  Fortunately or unfortunately - no car for me, but there's a bus that goes straight to the CostCo. I will definitely have to check it out this week.  I'm hoping they'll let me have a look around before making me pay membership.

Sometimes I go into Costco here in Manchester and have a little fantasy that I am going to walk out into the bright sunlight of my parents local Costco on Long Island...

Sadly, it never happens.

I feel the same thing when I go to Costco here.
