Well then you don't have to worry about parting with that kind of money.  Although I'm sure some of the places wouldn't bat an eye if you wanted to bring your girlfriend along - although that might mean the price goes up.

Related to the quid/pound thing, not sure if anyone has previously suggested this - but you might want to have a quick study of lingo on a website such as this:

http://english2american.com/

You know - "...two countries divided by a common language."  (George Bernard Shaw)

I am sure there are several threads on the forum already about this somewhere, with other similar websites suggested as well.

Yeah I'll definitely do that. I've picked up quite a few from the forums, but not enough! I know all the ones in my two London books, but as I've said before they are all food related! Although I cannot wait to try a Welsh Rarebit and I will NEVER try black pudding :P

So we've still been having a hard time finding a place to stay, but we finally just found a great one at a very reasonable price. We won't be alone, but the guy is extremely nice and helpful. He did, however, ask if we knew anyone in London that could meet with him or check the place out. I got the feeling he thinks we will back out if we don't know what the place is like, and then he'll lose two to three weeks of rent because his current shared tenant is leaving Friday and I won't be there till July 7th. Does anyone by chance want to do this for us? Victoria I know you offered and that'd be great. We still might be able to get the place without it, but I think if somebody meets with him it'll seal the deal.

Please PM me if you could help out, we only have two weeks left to find a place. The guy is extremely nice and I had a 15 minute phone conversation with him. I know this is a weird request, but you're all very helpful and nice so it feels fine. Anyways, let me know!

Thank you!

Has anyone ever herad of this place?

http://www.luckoni.com/studio_to_let_london_short_term.html

I did some yahoo searches for "short let london info" and some people asked if it was real and there were plenty of responses saying "yes" and that they stayed there. Also if you look at their properties, most are booked through random dates. So I don't think it could be a scam. Anyone have any info? It'd be really great. We have one guy that might work and it's very cheap, but if he falls through this place might be our last chance.

I don't know if it's for real or not but it's in Harlesden, which can be a pretty rough area. I wouldn't stay there. I don't think it's the sort of London experience you're after.

Hmm. That's good to know. I thought that generally north of the Thames was 'okay'. Any other areas north of the Thames around our budget to watch out for? We still might have to go with this place (if we find out it's legit.) Yet we'd rather not stay in a rough area. We'd like something in between, something realistic to where we'd be living, not rich or rough.

I would look around Camden/Kentish Town, and Kilburn/Madia Vale border (MV itself is very expensive but you can find affordable places around the edge where it borders Kilburn).

Nightmare so far! London is great, but our flat was a total con. The pictures are completely different. The flat has holes in the wall that come through to the outside and is thick with filth. The lady we have been dealing with was always really nice and we always stresses cleanliness and we spoke many times on the phone.

We can't stay there it's abosolutely disgusting. There were dead ants in the bed and she left our room completely packed with her stuff as well. We've spent the entire day searching internet cafes and streets trying to find somewhere to go, but with no luck. We booked a super expensive hotel as it was the only one available and we're headnig there now at 19:30. Hopefully with even more internet searches we find some more info tonight... Everyone cross your fingers for us we are quite scared atm! My girlfriend is having a hard time because she has high anxiety.

Sorry it's turned into a nightmare!  Don't know if this will help at all, but when I first arrived in London I stayed at University of Westminster Halls - Furnival House in London.  It is in Highgate and close to the Northern Line.  It is a basic but clean residence hall with private rooms.  Might work in a pinch.  Good Luck!  :)

OMG so sorry to hear that! I hope you can find something else more suitable and get your money back from the con woman.

Good idea! Try other student halls too - most of them let their rooms out to tourists in the summer months.
