Who flew Continental with pets in cargo?
« on: February 05, 2008, 03:22:12 AM »
Could anyone that flew Continental with their pet give us their stories??
I will be flying with my cat from Houston to Gatwick via Continental who has assured me every mode of transportation for the pet is temperature controlled so there is no worry about outside temp....??

thanks!

Hi,  Please don't worry.  When I moved back to the UK in 1997 I had the same fears as you as I booked my cat to travel cargo on British Airways.  I was very nervous that she would not be safe and the temperature would be too cold or too hot.  While waiting with her for her flight I discovered another cat was also taking the same flight.  There was unfortunately a mix up and medical supplies packed in dry ice were loaded on board before the cats even though the cats were booked first.  Because this would have resulted in a drop of temperature the cats were booked on the very next flight.  So you see they really do take care and regulations are strictly adhered to.  My baby arrived safely and I am sure yours will too.  All airlines follow the same strict guidelines but if you have any queries call Continental and I am sure they will put your mind at rest.  One tip is that the water carrier containers with the airline approved crates can spill and so I attached a hampster water feeder on the side just for safety.  I also put in one of my t-shirts which I had worn a few times so it had my scent on to comfort her.  Good luck!

My sister is currently a flight attendant for Continental Airlines and since I'm planning on moving over with my dog, she was the first person I called! She assures me that the pet will be safe and sound.

oh thank you!  I wish the flight was not so long bc I am sure I will be completely worried every second!
Did you ask her if it is alright to ask a million questions once in flight?!

I did! I did! I know I've posted my story on here somewhere. I was REALLY nervous about my cats (they flew in January), but really, it all went well. The people at Newark airport where I dropped them off were fantastic. They even let me go around the back to say goodbye before they took them even further back. You could tell they really like animals, so I appreciated that. One cat peed in the crate and they took the bedding out and cleaned it up. I would definitely use them again.
