Make sure you have the 'yells' right!  In Canada it's "HAAAAARRRRRDDDD, HAAAAAARRRRRRDDDD"!

Probably the ONLY curling movie on the face of the planet is called Men With Brooms with Paul Gross and Leslie Neilson.  It is hilarious!

And yes, curling is addictive. Canada pretty much shuts down once a year for the big tournament - the Labatt Briar.   ::)

A curling movie?  Oh man, I'm going to have to look for that.  Yeah, I seriously recommend trying it out, its a bit like boche,a bit like shuffleboard, and a bit like bowling, but not like any of them, if it makes sense.   :)

My dad used to curl when we lived in Canada! And my mother and I had no end of fun mocking him! Heeee!  ;D

the curlers wear nice jackets &/or sweaters though.  It really is a whole culture unto itself!

My parents curled my whole growing up.  My mom had a ladies' league where she'd go while we were at school.

When I lived in Canada before moving here, I had a Girl Guide who curled at a very high level.  her dad was totally into it and took us to his rink and taught us all to curl.  It was a riot!

And when the Briar is happening, no one talks about anything else - even the non-curlers are into it.  It is a totally bizarre part of Canadian culture!

I don't think my Dad was into it enough to have a special jacket or sweater! It was just a group of men who'd meet up at the curling rink once a week. I think they just wore their normal coats.

I don't remember the Briar at all! But the local bonspiel was a very big deal!  ;D

You know, coming from the northern part of the US, I actually thought (before moving to Scotland!) that curling was actually a Canadian invention, like ice hockey (which was probably a Scottish invention as well)- haha.

No, very, very scottish and that is all part of it.  We went to a levee at the curling club on New Years Day once with some relatives of DH's.  it was all kilts and bagpipes!

Wow, this is so interesting! I knew my Canadian grandfather was a curler, and his mother was Scottish, and all that fits together now.

My grandfather died when my mom was a kid, so I don't really know that much about him, and it's fun to see little bits like this!
