Chicken Wings
« on: February 11, 2008, 06:58:00 PM »
Seeing as we can't get Franks hot sauce in the UK and we all like chicken wings,  I thought I'd post the recipe for chicken wings that I made on Sunday.  And if anyone else has recipes, please share!

BTW...  Chicken wings are ultra cheap.  I got enough for an appetizer for 5 people at Sainsbury's for £1.15.

I cut the wings at the joint and removed the tip and then marinaded them over night in nando's hot peri-peri marinade.

I baked them in about a 180-200C oven for about 10 min on each side on a tin foil lined baking sheet.  Then I brushed them with more of the marinade and put them under the broiler until they crisped up a bit.

I served them with Blue Cheese dip and celery sticks.

I got the recipe for *to die for* Blue Cheese dip from here, my favourite food blog.

These are my favourite chicken wings in the whole wide world! They are my Aunt Jean's recipe and we would have them all the time growing up. They've been a hit with anyone I've served them too as well.

I have a question  - how do you do Buffalo chicken strips? Fry your chicken strips and coat them after the same as you do for wings?

I guess Hugh F-W didn't quite get his message through then.

If you're looking for a good BBQ sauce / marinade with a bit of zip to it I'd recomment Reggae Reggae Sauce (yes, the guy that appeared on Dragon's Den).  It's lovely!

That stuff's lethal! (but totally delicious...)  We always have some in the cupboard.  The guy that makes it is from just down the road (Brixton)!

Just out of curiosity, how do you do the Chicken Wings? Do you bake them or do you actually fry them? I would love to fry them but I am scared of frying!!!

I baked them, turning once - about 10 min on each side, then brushed them with more marinade and put them under the broiler to crisp them up (turning once)

They were lovely and moist and I didn't miss the frying at all.

The one time I fried chicken wings (little over a year ago) - I said never again!  The house smelled like a chippie for days!  I'd definitely do them in the oven/broiler in the future.

I cut my wings into 3 bits but I discard the end of the wing where there is little meat. I marinate them in Goya Adobo, Trappey's Red Devil sauce and Tobasco for a few hours before baking in the oven. Hot stuff let me tell you. They make DH very happy  ;D
Blue cheese dressing is optional.

Embarrassingly amateur question...

How do you cut up the wings?  I'm having difficulties!
