I want our wedding reception to have some of our personality in there, how we met is important to us, the fact I am English and he is American is always a talking point and i want o incorporate this part of our identities into our reception.

I dont want it to be the obvious though, flags all over the place that it looks more like a campaign rally lol!!
I did buy some beautiful ribbon with American flag colors on which i am login to use around our wedding cake.

Do anyone have any ideas of what else we can do, our colors are teal blue Champagne/opaque and a very little red and gold.

We are having our wedding cake Served with Tea after the ceremony haha ( love my cuppa's)

Was thinking of serving Gumbo at the hot buffet, as Hubby is from Louisiana

Any one have any suggests, any would be really helpful. My mind is blank

What about mini cream teas, small scones with clotted cream and jam. But tiny ones on flowery china. I love it!

this is really geeky and personal to our situation, but my FH is a train geek (and I like trains too!), so we're having American and British model trains on the cake table. :)  it's not very overt (most people won't know unless we explain it to them), but it gives us the warm fuzzies since it incorporates our relationship in terms of our nationalities and FH's hobby (and the fact that he has taught me a lot about it since we met!)
Now a triple citizen!

i was thinking this first of all, but really want to serve our wedding cake, maybe we could have some of these too like a little cream tea, served on cake platters on the table

As your husband is from Louisiana why not have some music from that region played at your reception? You could have some traditional Zydeco, Creole/Cajun music, a bit of Fats Domino maybe and some Harry Connick Jnr who is always a good bet for a wedding reception. (I got his new album for Xmas, and he's gone back to his Louisiana roots).

And for the British music, you can have Vera Lynn singing "there'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of dover"

A very simple way to do it is Hershey's kisses in little net bags or whatever. You can compliment this with some sort of British sweet like Cadbury.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Lovehearts!

YEs was thinking of the Hersheys kisses, I am also having easter baskets with easter eggs in as we have the wedding the week before easter, and decorating with the ribbon with little union Jacks on them lol.

You can always refer to it indirectly by doing some kind of love across the ocean motif. That should give you more options to work with.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I like this idea. we were thinking of having a novelty wedding cake which showed this theme, speaking with the lady at easter to sort the cake details out.

I love the idea of sweets from both countries (ie love hearts and kisses). I know Almariel is planning something like that with something Hershey (might have been kisses) and Manx Knobs.

We didn't do that much at ours, apart from my incorporating symbols from both our hometowns into banners I made.

We wanted our reception to reflect this "blending" of cultures, too, but we didn't want to scream it. For drinks, we served a choice of Newcastle Brown Ale and Carolina Blonde (which is appropriate since I am a Carolina blonde!) and Biltmore Estate wine, which is a local favorite. We also gave out little packets of tea as favors. They were mounted on a cardboard back that said "HonesTEA, LoyalTEA, EterniTEA." I know it sounds cheesy, but everyone loved them. I think I found them on The Knot. For our last dance, we danced to "Carolina in My Mind," and to close out the reception the D.J. played "London Calling." The next day, we had a cookout at my parents' house. We invited about 30 of our relatives and closest friends and polished off some of the alcohol, and we had a much more informal cake with a picture of the American flag and the Union Jack. The whole event was really special and something that our friends still talk about.
