But the chances of me ever having the money are pretty much nil.

my BIL did, too.  his insurance covered it because it was apparently affecting his breathing.  he looks a whole lot better now, too, not like a guy who played too much contact sports and got into too many fights. ;)

Would anyone here have cosmetic surgery?

My wife would and I wondered how many other people have considered having anything done?

A world of warning. In the UK there are plenty of private clinics and hospitals who offer cosmetic surgery. You will see lots of ads in the backs of womens mags etc.

Not saying they are rubbish or anything but things can go wrong. If you need surgery for a good cosmetic reason i.e your boobs are huge, your ears are like barn doors etc etc then route your enquiry through the NHS and even if they will not fund it,you can use the same surgeon on a private basis .

Also, absolutely vital-make sure that your surgeon is a member of the aptly named baaps

When I was still in the states, some years ago I had a breast reduction for health reasons not just cosmetic reasons.  I went from a 38 to a 34, was 12 pounds lighter when I walked out the door and 3 cup sizes smaller.  On my 5' frame, it was the best decision I ever made.  The scars are huge but so worth it.

The pinched nerves in my back and damage to my shoulders is here to stay but it's not going to get any worse.  Was really glad I made the decision.  My health insurance at the time had guidelines and I met something like 9 out of 10 of the guidelines so they paid for it.
