PA residents and taxes
« on: February 14, 2008, 05:48:46 PM »
I know there are other PAers on here.  I didn't earn any money in the US and aside from going home for the wedding, didn't live in PA this year.  So, do I need to file PA taxes?  As a non-resident perhaps?

Thanks

I talked to a person in PA about this (tax expert)...they said don't file.  So I haven't.

I found a leaflet and it said that if you lived for 179 days (or something around that number) outside of PA in a year, did not maintain a residence and had permanently moved then you were a non-resident.

You should file as a non-resident if you made over 30.00 (seems like a dumb amount to me) within the state.  But, PA does not tax non-residents on any interest made from savings or checking accounts even if they are held within the state.

So basically, if you made over 30.00 in PA this year, but that doesn't include interest earned on accounts and are a non-resident, then you don't need to file.  Supposedly.

I think I made .30 on my bank account in PA I haven't earned a dime, and don't own any property.  So I am not going to bother and file.  GREAT question bookgrl.
