Curbside collection garbage bin missing
« on: February 25, 2008, 04:47:27 PM »
I put my garbage out for collection on Friday, and when I got home from work that day, I noticed my back gate open and the wheeled bin missing...  It had my house numbers on it...I am finding this a bit peculiar.
Now I have nowhere to throw my bags of trash.  Do I just call up my local council and ask for another one?

Simple enough!

Thanks

(Funny how when you move to a new country you feel silly not knowing about the simplest things! :)  )

Same thing happened to us.  Luckily the previous owners had two so we've just been using the other one.

You'll only get a free replacement once, though... if it happens again,  you will have to pay.  From memory, it's something like £40.

Uggh, I don't want to pay £40 for something that I only put my garbage in...

when mine went missing, i went round looking in the back and side gardens of over 20 houses around us!  I was convinced someone had lifted it.  But it was nowhere to be seen, and when i phoned the council, they said that the bin lorry had probably tipped it into the truck by accident.  ::)
Then they checked the records to make sure i had not requested a replacement before... and told me i'd have it in a week, but that next time i would have to pay, even if it wasn't my fault.   They only replace them for free the once.

This is the sort of thing that varies by council though, so it probably won't be the same for everyone.

Um yeah.  i know.
But as she and i are both in Scotland, there is a possible semi-likelihood that our experiences will be similar.

Yeah, and I imagine the highland council would be more than willing to charge £40 for a garbage bin, even if was eaten by the bin lorry...
