STD clinics???
« on: March 07, 2008, 09:25:34 AM »
I'm trying to find a clinic I can go to get std tests done.. But the ones i find seem to charge like 150 quid just for a hiv test, and you seem to pay per STD. Is that how it is in the UK? Are there any free or cheap places people go to get it done? I"m trying to find somewhere in or close to Belfast...

You might have more luck searching for STI clinics.

I did a google search for STI clinic Belfast and found this:

Quote
A GUM clinic is one of the places you can go to for an HIV test. (You can read about other places to have HIV tests elsewhere in this section of our website.)

At a GUM clinic the staff will give you advice and support before and after testing, help you decide upon any treatments that may be necessary, and provide all kinds of information about sexual health. There may be aspects of your sexual health that you haven’t considered and preventative measures that they can help you with, such as vaccinating you against Hepatitis A and B.

All these services are free, confidential and anonymous (if you want them to be). And none of the results will be put on to your medical records or be sent to your GP.

Here's a link to the page that shows the address for the Belfast GUM clinic: Clicky

Hope that helps.

The NHS provides free walk in clinics at hospitals and that is for smear tests and the like, if your not getting free NHS treatment I am unsure were you would go.

But try your local hospital.

good luck
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

I would ask your GP or try your local family planning clinic.

There are lots of free services in the UK; you should definitely not have to pay.  GUM clinics are the place to go - FP clinics will not do HIV and STI tests.

Definitely the GUM clinics.  I made DH get the full battery of tests before I came over, and they were great--no charge whatsoever.

and they are right, they call them STI's here, not STD's.

The Healthcare Commission mandates that all patients requesting an appointment with a GUM clinic (aka Sexual Health department) are given an appointment and seen with 48 hours of requesting.  If you see your GP you should have no trouble getting a test.
