Want to sail to So'ton on the QM2?
« on: April 20, 2004, 04:43:19 PM »
Tried of paying top tourist season dollar to be herded like cattle at the airports?  Carrying more than 2 bags?  Had it with surly, overworked immigration agents?  Hate to fly?  Deserve to be pampered?

Well, share my cabin on the Queen Mary 2 leaving NY on July 5, arriving in Southampton on July 12.  The crossing is 6 nights--hotel, meals, entertainment, activities, and transportation all for less than $333 a day ($1813.55, actually).   Includes an air ticket back if you aren't migrating.  I am emigrating, and this is my good-bye present to me (plus I'm bringing maybe 6 suitcases.  I'm a Fluff runner).  I am easy-going, neat, and a non-smoker.

I have sailed on the QE2 previously.  The first time was because I was terrified of flying and my sister needed trunks taken to the UK.  The baggage allowance for the sailing is huge.

The QM2 doesn't have single cabins, so I'm paying for 2.  The other bed will cost you 1/2 of what I'm paying--no profit.  If you are interested, check out http://www.cunard.com and let me know if you want more info.

I would LOVE to do this QE2 trip! *sigh* one day. I have my sights set on the Orient Express first, though.

Leaving NYC July 5, arriving Southampton July 12.  Remember the huge baggage allowance!  Interested?

She's bringing over "Fluff" (probably for several people) which is a marshmellow substance you put on sandwiches!

Anyone know if the ship is still gonna make this run? They just had a huge story on the BBC about serious safety concerns on the QM2? Chris?

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

The Marine Safety Association (dont know their official title) have declared the QM2 safe to sail once they have the smoke dectors in place, which should be done by it's next scheduled sailing to NYC in a day's time. The next stage is the sprinkler system but I suspect they'll be working on that during the docked hours in So'ton so as to prevent having to cancel any sailings. Probably the best people to check with are Cunard.

:o Thanks for the info, balmerhon and Marsbar.  I hadn't heard anything over here.   Cunard has the most famous ocean liners in the world.  They said nothing about the most fireproof!

I was on the QM2 for the Mother's Day cruise.  Everything on the ship was the best.  I'm shocked that the fire rating of the bathroom materials wasn't checked out before installing it.  Someone is looking for a new position now, I'm sure.

If the ship sails, I'm on it.  My cousin is coming across with me but flying right back.   Oh, have to check the trains on Sunday!  Bye!

Honestly? From what I saw of the footage on the QM2 on BBC news I TOTALLY want to have a sail on it. It looked top class.
