Hi all.  :)

Just a quick question:  How does the transit system in Edinburgh compare to that in London? I stayed in London for a couple of months last summer and found that there was no place in all of London I couldn't get to by tube, train, or bus. Is Edinburgh the same way?

I have lived in London and Edinburgh (not *in* town, but just outside) and the transport in Edinburgh is crap.
There are no trains or tubes or subways... only buses.
The roads are all torn up at the moment, though, because they're building a tram network... hopefully that will improve the transport situation.

Oh, I still definitely plan to visit!  I've heard too many wonderful things about the city not to check it out.   ;D  I was just thinking about it from a long-term non-driver standpoint.

I've only been a short-term visitor to Edinburgh (3 times), but always found the buses to be sufficient, and taxis plenty when needed.  Most of the time I walked.
I looooooooooooooooooooove Edinburgh.

As Elizabeth said, when I go to Edinburgh I walk everywhere.  It's my favourite city after London.

I live in the city centre of Edinburgh, and can pretty much walk most places within 20 minutes, and can get to the opposite side of town in 40 minutes. I had a bus pass for the first year and a half I lived here, but abandoned it in favour of walking because Genau is right about Edinburgh public transport...the buses are pretty rubbish. BUT, they do get you to where you want to go in most cases...there are very few places in the city that are unreachable by public transport. I probably take the bus once every week or two. It's extremely walkable. And hopefully all the faff with the trams will be worth it in the end!

I lived in London for four years, and took a bus/tube combo every day. I would NEVER ever EVER give up my laid-back pedestrian Edinburgh lifestyle for that circus ever again!
Ok, so I'm smug.

I drive to work, but many of my colleagues complain about having to get 3 buses to get from one side of town to our office on the other side.
