Great British Menu
« on: April 10, 2008, 07:40:49 PM »
Is anyone else watching?

I've been decidedly underwhelmed by the menus this week, but there have been two bonuses for me. On Monday, they went to Cothi Valley Goats Cheese - I've bought lots of cheese from them at the farmers' market over the years! And today, there was a trip to Charlie Hicks greengrocer's, another shop I adore!  ;D

Yeah, definitely been watching but not overly impressed with the menus this week. Milk jelly with tomato confit and nettle coulis? No thanks!

We were out shopping this evening and missed it but I'm not too impressed by the chefs this week anyway. Nothing seems to be very modern or imaginative at all. Plus they're both so full of themselves that I find myself rolling my eyes every few minutes :D

I love the show though. What I'd give to be a chef! ;)
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I don't know that I agree with that. To be a top chef, you have to have a pretty strong sense of self, but I wouldn't say that either one of them is particularly full of him/herself.

But I do agree that this week hasn't been very innovative 'modern,' which is what the judges are looking for.

I loved the guy last week with the ash coated meat and the rabbit trifle, etc. He was amazing!

Me! Me! Me! :D

I liked him too. I don't really care for licorice normally, but I was intrigued by that licorice ash coated veal he made.

My hubby and I are watching it too (on i-BBC) even though I wouldn't be able to eat 99% of what they make!  I just think it's interesting.

I don't think these two are full of themselves, but their constant needling of each other drives me crazy and is not entertaining in the least.  I liked the friendly and caring (yet cometitive) relationship between the first two cooks much better.

Yeah, that tomato and milk jelly thing looked, sounded and maybe tasted absolutely vile.  *Who* would want to eat that??  Angela's dessert looked pretty yummy to me.

Aww I feel a bit sad for Angela, losing 2 years in a row. I'm really looking forward to next week tho! The Yorkshire face-off should be awesome!

Well, looks like I was wrong about that milk jelly dessert.  :-\\\\

Me too! It seems that was the course that really swung the decision for Stephen! Go figure! I don't necessarily think it would taste bad (I love nettle tea, for instance), but I just thought it looked sloppy - and the judges all seemed to love the presentation.

I preferred Angela's menu by a hair and was glad to see that Matthew Fort, whom I adore, voted for her.  ;D

(Some friends and I might be going to Stephen's restaurant in Abergavenny next month!)

I guess I associate nettles and nettle tea as being medicinal.

I like Matthew Fort as well--he seems like a really nice person in general!

Ugh. How could that sloppy dessert swing the vote? Blech.
