What to wear to wedding?
« on: April 15, 2008, 04:31:47 AM »
Hi all! I am coming over on a BUNAC visa to work and be with my boyfriend in June.  :)One of his friends invited us to her wedding reception in late July. Apparently the wedding is for family only, so everyone else comes afterward. I was wondering what would be appropriate to wear as a guest? Any help would be great!

Don't listen to her.  People will probably be dressed like they're going out for a nice evening.  A cute dress.  There will be dancing.

Yes I agree, a nice dress or matching two piece.

A nice dress will be fine, yes. But, I promise you, most people will be wearing hats to the wedding part of the event.

(You could even wear nice trousers if you want.)

I just wanted to say--this whole hat thing--I've not experienced it myself yet (I've been to 3 weddings so far in the UK including my own), but my mom who is coming to visit for the first time asked if she needed a hat because everyone on British TV shows wears hats!

Personally I hate hats.

When my friend got married, she actually stipulated on the invitation that hats MUST be worn by the ladies... I have to say, watching all the concotions people had on their heads was far more entertaining than the wedding itself.

For a wedding in July, I'd be looking to wear a nice floaty summery dress.

Ugh--I don't know what I would have done!

We are going to another wedding in May--a bit posher than the casual lesbian wedding and the laid-back outdoorsy wedding we've already been to so I'll keep my eyes peeled for hats!

I rebelled!  I don't have a head for hats, so I didn't wear one, luckily she was too busy to notice!

I would love to wear hats, but they don't like me.   :\\\'(

Hat talk!

All the pictures and video from Adams sisters wedding in July had alot of the women in the family wearing hats...some with feathers and such. When I was there the 2nd time we saw a wedding in windsor where all the women were in nice dresses and hats....I thought it was just an older woman thing but that wedding in Windsor was a younger crowd.

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

I'd have thought that, too--that hats were an older woman thing--sort of "mother-of-the-bride" and very matronly (i.e. old-ladyish!)  I'd need to see some pics of hip and stylish younger (and older) women in hats to be convinced otherwise!
