New to the forum...and somewhat new to London
« on: April 30, 2004, 08:03:31 PM »
Hi!

I found this website a few days ago and I am very glad I did.  Just knowing there are Costcos in England was worth the price of admission!  (oh wait, registration is free...never mind  :))

I work for a large American company and spent October-November in London on a short term job assignment.  They have since offered me a permanent position in London (happy dance!) and to get things rolling they sent me back over last week.  I return to Los Angeles in late May, then will be relocating permanently sometime this summer.

It's a very exciting yet scary time, especially as I am also getting married (unlike most brides-to-be here, to a fellow American  :)) and we now have to run to the courthouse so he can get his spousal visa sooner rather than later (although we're still planning the big ceremony - and party!- for later this year).   He's thrilled that we are moving, and I have to admit it was his enthusiasm that helped me to decide to take the job.

I'm incredibly lucky, as my company is doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to UK relocation (i.e. visas, shipping, and flat-finding help), but I'm sure I will have lots of questions for the very kind and knowledgable people here - and I already have things to add to the "US things I miss/UK things I like" list  :)

Cheers!

Hi SoCal.  Welcome :D  I currently live in OC, but will be moving to Hampshire in October.  Congratulations on the "permanent" job.  Hope you stick around.  I'm new also and everyone here has been extremely nice and helpful.

What a thrilling adventure for you!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

And we'd love to be part of any London area meet-ups.

Britwife, I went to junior high/high school in San Diego but currently live on the Westside of Los Angeles - my fiance lives in the San Fernando Valley (where it's a toasty 104 degrees F today, or so I've been told!)  But we had family friends who lived in Orange - and I think that's where Chapman College is, where some friends went to school.

Thanks again to everyone - I'm really happy I found this forum!  :)
