I used to fish a lot in the states but since moving here haven't done it at all. It's a bit different and I didn't bring any of my equipment. I would suggest if you are used to using particular items in the U.S. definately bring them with you.  They don't do a lot of pond or lake fishing here. It's mostly stream or sea. A lot do trout fishing. And they do have lovely trout here! Oh, and most people I know who fish here actually think carp is fantastic to catch while in the states everyone turns their noses up at it (unless it's smoked they all say!) But you won't find bass (unless it's sea bass) or catfish. I do think fishing over here is a whole different ball game.

why havnt you done it? i tried searching online for trout ponds in england, i found some but they all seem just strange, and it seems to cost a lot.. (here i pay $20 for a license a year) i hate stream fishing, and the sea is scary lol im 23 but an old man at heart.. just wanna sit in a lawn chair on the lake shore...

I know a lot of people who fish, but it's all sea fishing. We're in a coastal area, so I don't think anyone would ever think to look for a lake with all that lovely water around! There's mackerel, sewin and sea bass aplenty!

There is a lot of fishing at the Contry park near me.  People set up little shelters, but I don't think you can eat the fish.  It is built on a former factory site and they are tiny.

There are always people fishing from the rocks on the side of our village beach. Sometimes, even just from the beach itself. I'm not sure what they catch, though, if anything.

Oh yes, and catch and release seems to be pretty big too!  If I am fishing I am darn well gonna eat what I catch! (for the most part!)

I don't fish, but I've seen people fishing at a lake in one of the parks here in the middle of Sheffield.
