I looked all over for a simple, well semi simple recipe for a nice traditional British Meal. Now the pies are great but i wanted something a little more unique. Any suggestions?

I really haven't had opportunities to try many Traditional British meals, but I really want to learn. My husbands birthday is coming up and I would like to present a nice dinner but have it a traditional one.  ;D

The only item I do not like is any dish where liver is the main course. Chopped up is a bit different and acceptable. LOL

A nice dessert recipe would also be fabulous.....

I know there are great cooks out there who will lend me a recipe and i will honor it by saying where I got it from.

Thank so very much....

I will begin saving recipes and trying them out and hoping they turn out good. Anyone with a favorite?

I don't think there's anything particularly unique about traditional British food, but it's yummy all the same! :)

Roast dinner?  Bangers and mash?  Toad in the hole?  You've already mentioned pies (meat pies).  These are all about as traditional British as it gets. :)

My gran is someone who likes to do this - she has a pressure cooker and cooks all her veg until it's all mushy and tasteless. It was so embarrassing when we visited the US with her a couple of years ago and went out to eat at TGI's... she complained in a nice loud voice (she's hard of hearing so doesn't realise how loud she's talking) that the vegetables weren't cooked - right in front of the waitress :-[!

For the dessert I'd suggest a trifle or bread and butter pudding.

My mum was always the opposite to that - and she used a pressure cooker.

I wouldn't recommend something I'd never eat myself!

Its the traditional dish of a very small part of London...and vile! Don't do it!

The traditional dishes of the bit of London I am from is kebab and keftethes; the traditional dish from the place I live now is Irish stew or Gefilte fish!
