recommendation for pilates DVD?
« on: May 13, 2008, 11:05:59 AM »
I've been very fortunate to lose a fair amount of weight during my pregnancy (I gained baby  weight and lost my own weight!). Now, running around after a toddler seems to be helping keep the weight off.

BUT, my muscle tone is rubbish and I'm having ongoing problems with my hips, back, neck and shoulder. I feel like an old woman! I have a referral for physio but that won't come thru for several weeks. That's for the pinched nerve in my left arm that causes it to fall asleep regularly throughout the day.

I want to do pilates from home. Any recommendations for a decent DVD?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It's been a few years, but I loved Ana Caban's pilates DVDS.

I did them for awhile and really saw a difference!

I used to use Burn and Firm Pilates when I was stuck inside. I come from a "work out HARD" mentality and I really liked that this one wasn't just going through the motions, it really did work you hard. They say you need a mat and hand weights, but I just used a few towels on the floor and the heaviest wine/liquor bottles I could find and they did the trick for the few times I did the dvd (I prefer running and the gym's freeweights over home workouts if given a choice).

I also really liked the presenter here because she wasn't OTT perky or condescending like I find on 95% of exercise dvds/sites/podcasts.

I use Pilates 10 Minute Solutions with Lara Hudson. She has several different DVDs out depending on what type of workout you want. I like it because each DVD has five different sets you can mix and match so you can target the areas you need more work on and skip the ones you don't. She's also fairly easy to follow and not too annoying.  ;D

I always see tv adverts for Windsor Pilates and you get two DVDs (I think two) and the circle thing for 9.99.

I keep meaning to order it as it looks good and for 9.99 you can't really go wrong.
