Margarita's Anyone??
« on: May 21, 2008, 12:44:02 AM »
So we have decided to have jugs of Margarita's on the tables at our wedding reception and I was wondering if anyone has their own favorites, suggestions and recipes??

Happy times !  :D

Sounds fun, though I am no good at giving out any help on recipes. The one time my friend and I tried to make raspberry margaritas we got the directions mixed up and ended up putting in more tequila than mix. Big oops!  ::) :P

I can't change the direction of the wind, I can however adjust my sails to always make it to my destination.

I haven't had a margarita for ages but we like to make hibiscus ones.  My husband posted some details here:

Also, iced hibiscus tea is a great non-alcholic drink for any non drinking guests.

Well...  I guess you just have to try a new recipe every night until you get it right! ;D

Yumm Margarita's!  I bought a bottle of pre-mixed Jose Cuervo from Tesco a while back - now I just need someone to drink with.  Oh how I miss my sister!   :(

Did you bellow?  :D

Been awhile since I've made them and to be honest, I'm an eyeball bartender.  So my measurements aren't exact.

Party-sized 'ritas

12 Limes
Simple syrup (1 part water to 1 part sugar)
Tequila
Triple sec
Salt

Squeeze limes, add some of the simple syrup and taste.  This is not supposed to be sugary sweet, just enough sweet to cut a bit of the tart.  If it's still too tart but sweet enough, add a touch of plain water.

If you are doing frozen margaritas, be easy with the simple syrup/water combo as the ice will eventually dilute the taste so you will want the lime mix to be a bit stronger than if drinking neat.  If drinking it neat, you can dilute a bit more to taste.

My ratio for booze is something like 50% tequila, 25% Triple Sec, 25% fresh lime/simple syrup.

Run limes around outside of the glass and salt rim.

Pure bloody heaven!

Everyone I've made this margarita for has absolutely loved it.  I learned it at a restaurant I worked at in Texas.

2oz lime juice
2oz sweet and sour
2oz triple sec (cointreau, Grand Marnier...not sure if you can get cheap triple sec here)
2oz tequila...go for something good as this makes tons of difference.  I loved Sauza Hornitos, not too expensive (at least in the US!) but good
1/8 cup powdered sugar

Pour all into a shaker with a few ice cubes, shake it up good, then pour into a glass.  Voila!  An excellent margarita!

Link for the Sauza Hornitos:

Don't know if that's expensive or not for over here as I've only been here for a month.  I would recommend not going with Jose Cuervo.  It's just not as good to me.
