Clumping Litter
« on: June 12, 2008, 05:46:29 PM »
I was wondering if any of you know the best, cheapest clumping litter to get here in the UK?  I always used clumping litter back in the US because it helps keep the litter box much cleaner.  We've been staying with my husband's parents and his mother has been buying regular cat litter from Lidl.  It drives me insane that I can't get all the pee soaked litter out which means really, the litterbox isn't clean.

It doesn't seem like there's much of an option out there I guess because most people here don't need a littler box for their cats.

We use Cat-San ultra clumping litter for our boys - it's not the best out there (not a patch on the Arm&Hammer stuff in the US!) but it works better than anything else we've tried.  It's not cheap, though - around £4.50 for a 5kg bag - but we split one bag between two large boxes, scoop every night and change & scrub the pan every week.

Yeah, that is the only thing I will use with two cats in the house!  We get a huge box of it at Costco for under £4. It's called Litter Purrrfect and is a huge 13.6 kg box with with natural ingridents and has the smell of lemongrass.  Barring that I think we found one at Sainsbury that wasn't too far off from the kind at Costco.

That's what we use as well. Everything else we've tried has been disastrous.

Oddly the only one I'll buy is Sainsbury's own brand ultra-clumping litter. Our two are pee'ing machines and it's the only thing I've been happy with!  :)

Same exact thing. Cat-San is the only one I have found that makes the litterbox bearable.  We bought a cheap bag from morrisons once and it made the catbox like a mud pit ...ewwww

Another Cat-San user here! But I haven't tried any other brand of clumping litter here, so I don't know if another one might work better. Cat-San is the only brand I've been able to find, and it does the job just fine. I do wish it cost less, but what can you do.  :-\\\\

Thank you for the replies!  We have three cats and right now they are sharing one litterbox.  It's horrible!  We'll have to buy another box.

Where do you all get Cat-San from?

Whisper:  is Costco like the US where you have to pay a membership?

I'll have a look at the Sainsbury's brand as well.

Pets at home or Morrisons is where I usually get it.. but its pretty much the most popular brand here so you should'nt have trouble finding it.

We use Catsan hygiene litter, not clumping, but you should be able to find the brand almost anywhere. Even our little Netto had it, although we usually get ours from Tesco or ASDA.

Yeah, Costco is the same here!  HUGE box of the stuff lasts us 4-6 weeks for a household of two cats!  And the price is really good! I swear by it. It's been the best stuff I have found and we have tried loads!!

My Tesco never seems to carry the clumping Cat-San, just the ordinary non-clumping stuff. But if you have a larger shop, yours should have it. My Asda always had it as well, so I didn't have to resort to driving miles to get to a Pets-at-Home (like Petco).
