Filing Late...
« on: June 13, 2008, 07:23:37 AM »
So I know we had the 2 month automatic extension, but I'm fairly certain I'm not going to make that if the requirement is that is has to be received by the deadline (if it just has to be posted by the deadline, I might be okay.)  I only worked for 3 months of 2007, all in the UK, made well under the exclusion limit (I'm not even sure I made enough to be required to file, but I think I did because of the exchange rate) so I shouldn't owe any US tax.  If my return is a few days late under these circumstances, will there be any negative consequences?
Now a triple citizen!

If you don't owe anything I don't think there will be dramatic huge consequences.  But it only needs to be postmarked by Monday, so if you can get it done over the weekend (which it sounds like you should as you've only got 3 months of 2007), you're okay.  I would say do your best to try for Monday so you don't have to worry!

You can fiile an extension - either form 4868 or 2350 depending which applies so you get a lot more time..
